Still cant make up my mind

on what i want to replace my TL with

heres my top choices:

06+ Civic Si Coupe

06 TSX Nav

05+ Tacoma Double Cab Sport

06+ 4Runner

newer Accord V6 Coupe

i ruled out the GTI for obvious reasons

at this point, im looking for lower ownership costs, so that might rule out the TSX. my dad recently got a lifted Prerunner and is doing ok on gas. im thinking a civic would be about the same costs as i have now, just the fact that insurance is soo much more. that leaves the 4Runner. though i really dont have use for an suv, ive always liked the 4runners.

i found this one for basically a steal. these have timing chains too, right? 70k is really nothing for one of these.

http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...e&aff=national

so im not sure, i still want something nice. the practicality/space of a truck/suv would be nice too. im just really undecided at the moment

i think now would be a great time to get a deal on a Toyota

TACO!

or AV6 coupe

wait, I have shitty short term memory and ADD. So that white Tacoma in one of your other threads was your dad's, right? Just guessing, but fuel costs aside I think the Si will be more expensive for your insurance, though the savings on gas will make it close to ownership costs of the AV6.

That 4runner is pretty nice though. Its just that I'd rather have a Taco truck. I mostly want a truck so that I can go snowboarding and off-roading so unless you really think you'll use it, I think I'd stick with a car. Whatever makes you happy

yea, the insurance on an si was 50 more a month than my TL ..crazy shit.

I'd go Taco but TRD with the locker. I've had the opporuntity to drive every honda product over the last 10 or so years and am complacent with them these days.

I think he means Hondas made in the last 10 years, though some people have "started" driving at like 13 or so

Would you prefer 2 doors or 4? I love the Civic Si Coupe, but I prefer 4 doors, so then I would probably lean towards the TSX in your case. What about the Si sedan?

Do you usually haul around a lot of shit so it warrants you to buy a truck or suv? Yes it may be nice to have the extra room when you need it, but will you be taking advantage of that extra space that often?

I say TSX or the Taco...none of the other choices really seem great to me. But they are 2 completely different cars...

why would a tsx be ruled out for ownership costs?

because the TL is currently costing me an arm and a leg..its always something with this car

comparing some Honda/Acura service prices

closest Acura lot-30 miles
closest Honda lot-1 mile

cheapest oil change for a Honda-24.99
cheapest oil change for an Acura-40.00

i considered a toyota just for the fact they have timing chains, just to avoid the high 105k service cost.

i have my TL for sale, but i need to get a brakes done, and also have a possible belt/pully problem. it seems in the last 3 years, ive dumped like 5k for repairs in this car..i didnt want the TSX to be the same

so thats my reasoning

since im paying my own way through school, im trying to save all the money i can for school, but these repairs on my TL keep eating away at my CC, so i dunno. i just want out from it.

for those of you that have a TSX, have you had any major problems/costs? is a cpo worth the extra cost?

im just afraid of another "TL" that needs something major at least two-three times a year

I think you just had a bad Acura. The TSX generally won't give you a hard time...and regarding the oil change, you should learn to do it yourself, it is a useful skill.

Please don't get an SUV you'll get bored so quickly. I'd say the SI or the AV6, personally I think the AV6 looks to bulky for a coupe, but it's numbers are impressive. The SI looks pretty nice, maybe get an SI Sedan I bet that will ease up on the insurance cost!

you could always service your car at the Honda dealer

4runners and Tacos can be fun if you supercharge them

My buddy has a 05 TSX 6MT with about 115K miles and so far it's been great! Besides the regular oil changes, he hasn't spent a dime on any other mechanical issues.

You should be fine with a TSX as long as you don't go crazy trying to mod the hell out of it

the oil changes should be similar, maybe a dollar or two difference for the filter.

You will be spending more on trading in the long run compared to normal repairs.

i would choose the tsx or the 4runner.

If you are worried about costs, the taco and 4runner will have higher gas costs.

I would look at the cost of replacing tires/brakes plugs on all vehicles. You should also check the cost of insurance on each also.

wih this information you should be able to narrow down your choices.

i know, it sucks..i love the car, but i think it would be the smartest thing financially right now.

heres what ive spent in the last 3 years:

right when i bought the car-tires-650
half of a new tranny-2500
axles-300
new DBA front rotors (only to have them warp)-240
pads-250
tensioner pully-200
a/c: harness/transistor:400
left HID ballast-800
New HIDs-110
another set of tires-580

im sure im missing some, but on my old 89 toyota p/u V6, i maybe spent 100/year on service..300 the most. even the clutch replacement was cheap

maybe i just had a bad TL because 9/10 times i baby this car, i open it up rarely, but when i do, its nice.

i bought it with 129k, but the guy was the original owner. he was a correctional officer and drove all highway. he had ALL lol service records, so i thought it was good. a family friend that worked for honda advised against it lol, but he was trying to sell me an AV6/6 too lol.

i now have 171k on it

My buddy just traded in his 5 series after spending $4300 in two years on random sh1t braking every 2-3 months. He got so fed up, traded it in on a 08 Camry SE with JBL/Sunroof/BT and is in love with it. I was surprised at his decision at first but after driving/seeing the car, I can see why. Also CPO 5 yr/100K bumper to bumper warranty is leaving him with peace of mind for years to come.

He got a good deal on it. He was also in your shoes...finishing up school, tired of the BMW constantly bringing his CC balance up and just wanted to get a reliable car he can drive for the next 3-5 years without any headaches.

I think he made a really good decision and I think they look nice.

Also, they are HUGE inside!

This is just like his:

Legacy GT? Reliable, safe, and fun to drive.

You could at least give one a drive. Only the GT, not the 2.5i which is anemic at best.
