STI vs TLX (stock)

I have just been surfing the web and have been cuious about which car would out perform the other, so this is not a "What car should Purchase" type of thing.

I am talking about the fully loaded 2016 TLX with SH-AWD and the 3.5 V6 w/ 9-speed Dual-Clutch transmission, and the Fully loaded 2016 STI.

I know this is a bit unfair being I am on an Acura site, however I am pretty sure brand names aside, people will be able to get down and simple. Just curious about the outcome, with drivers being equal, if not the same person, and on/off the track at stock.

hmm... STI weighs less with more HP and torque vs. TLX weighs more with less HP and torque.

STI a sports car vs. TLX a luxury car

my scientific analysis is done.

It depends what you want to use it for. The TLX will be significantly more comfortable, probably have more tech attached to it, and if you are prone to getting stuck in traffic, the TLX is probably the way to go. That being said, I would probably go STI.

STI 0-60 = 4.6 seconds
TLX (3.5L) = 5.6 Seconds....

enough said.

The STi will rape the TLX without lube every day and in any conceivable performance scenario.

It depends what you mean by "out perform", are you looking at 0-100km or quarter mile times? Are you looking at noise levels and fuel economy, or cargo capacity? Without an evaluation criteria it's difficult to comment.

By the way, no official info is available for 2016 TLX yet. I don't think the 9 speed dual clutch unit will make it into the TLX yet, maybe after the NSX is released if we're lucky. Expect TLX's to keep the 9AT for V6 units and 8DCT for four cylinder units

Can't argue with that. I just had no idea what the numbers were for either car.

I like this answer. Yeah, I can see the TLX being more of a car for me, being I would never truly see the race track, just some awesome spirited driving, yet still safe. I guess the TX really would be more for me being the area that I live in, a DC transmission might be more practical. But I am dreaming over here, I have a 2004 TSX for my High School Grad present, nowhere near getting a new car

The TLX will "outperform" the STi in the same way a Camry will "outperform" an STi, in softness, quietness, roominess, and daily commute car use .

Dang, yeah, sorry for the not so specific criteria. Well, it is looking like the sti wins the 0-60mph, and will most likely win the quarter mile, but the tlx in ride comfort, etc.

I thought I saw somrthing with the V6 models having the DCT.

When i hear "perform" i think how quickly it gets around. With that in mind it isnt even a contest. Sti wouldbout preform in every way.

Being luxurious isnt performance. Being quite is an aspect of performance but not the definition.

Sti wins hands down.

Tlx has near zero aftermarket support.
Sti market is saturated with comaonies competing to make the best parts.

Acuras will never have the tuner support subaru has. Not for the last 2 decades anyway.

Not sure I would ever even compare these vehicles since it's apples and oranges.. but since you did, the STI would outperform a TLX hands down...

If and only if the TLX has upgraded tires, it could outperform the STi do to its superior ground clearance, AC vent locations, aerodynamic expensive side mirrors, and best-in-class fuel economic.

I think this is like bringing a Barrett .50 cal to an archery range.

I don't think these are two cars you cross-shop. Think of it more like a Metallica fan thinking One Direction.... Oh never mind :ghey:

I don't really know much about Subarus, but maybe it is not as far fetched a victory as some responses in this thread suggest.

I remember races a long time ago in... Mexico... where a CL-S could hang with an older gen Subaru WRX (but it wasn't an STI).

Here's a video I found on youtube between a CL-S and a supposed STI:

Of course we're talking about newer models now. But the performance gap at one point wasn't too far apart.

It's a huge performance gap, ignore the videos above (the CL was running nitrous)... it wouldn't even be a close race around any sort of the track against the STI, the TLX wouldn't stand even a remote chance in any performance test.
