sti? g37? sti owners chime in!

thinking about buying an 06 or 07 sti. just wondering how you guys liked the stiff-sporty ride. i know its a world apart from the tsx but sometime i wish i could just have a fast car that is ideal for the northeast weather. the only real downside for me is that the subaru wrx sti's dont come with navi.
maybe i should just start saving up for the g37 coupe but im not sure about the rwd in the snow. some people say it sucks and others say it's fine as long as you have decent tires. the sti is more in my price range so paying for it would be a little easier even though my parents would help me out. but im afraid im going to miss some of the luxurious feautures that my tsx has.

ps. is the 08-09 sti going to be a hatch? cause that would make me want to get a current model asap. i saw the concept pictures and they just seemed fugly .

Everything I read says the WRX is hatch only going forward. Unless you're dying to get something ASAP you might want to wait and see if Infiniti follows BMW's lead and offers an AWD version of their coupe. If BMW sees enough potential to offer 328xi and 335xi coupes then perhaps a G37x isn't far behind.

Insurance will probably screw you sideways no matter how long you've been driving and how clean your record is. Now, if you have points/tickets on it, I sure as hell hope you're not the only paying for it, but if you man up and are paying for it, check rates first.

The STi interior is really nice to me, of course not as nice as the TSX but I actually prefer the bucket seats and the suede. The ride is definitely more harsh than the TSX but not unbearable.

The best way to find out if you really want a car or not is to go and see it in person and test drive it.

Since you are considering a STi, you should have EVO X on your list as well.

G37 is a GT coupe and STi is a rally car, depends what you prefer?

most dealerships around me won't let you test drive an STi, which is pretty retarded unless if you know someone, which me and my friend doand the car is quick. really quick, i like the wrap around seets and the suspension is stiff bu you can live with it if you don' mind it which i really don't.

i've also drove an EVO 9 MR and thats just as stiff but also very quick.

to me the g37 is in a different league.

either way on an evo or sti insurance will blow hardcore no matter how clean your record.

to me if you want performance with the awd go with an EVO or STi. if you want luxury get the g37 or even the g35c. like you said your in the northeast and so am i. when i was looking i was looking at sti's and evo and legacy GT's for awd since i drive 100 miles plus a day in the winter. i love the performance but i got an IS250awd because i wanted the luxury, had awd, new it would never break, got it at a killer deal it it is somewhat sporty. do i wish i had more power, yea, but thats what modds are for :-)

ever thought about a legacy GT, couple quick things then can be just as fast an as STI since they share the same block, little bigger then an sti, can get it with nav and 5 speed and is a real sleeper. just throwing it out there. plus you can make them look real mean and aggressive.

Yeah the '08 STi will be a hatch, they are making an '08 wrx sedan (non hatch) with navi though. It obviously won't be 300hp. Probably 230ish like the current one. And as someone stated, you can't test drive STI's afaik.

Click the link on the left that says "the all-new 2008 wrx" for pics of the sedan i was talking about.

I just bought an '02 wrx actually. I have an '06 tsx and wanted something fun to drive with some pep. I'm more than satisified with it

my friend has a bug eye 03 wrx, silver like yours. rims on it with some nice rubber, full 3 inch exhaust, down pipe, up pipe, cobb tuning accessport, BOV, and soon upgrading to a bigger intercooler and an 18G turbo. right now the car screws with out the intercooler or turbo. definitively fun cars.

I think that's only on new ones... cuz of the turbo... they don't want people revving it... and it's pointless to test drive a car like that if you can't even "push it".

the reason why I say that is because prior to buying the FX, I looked at Legacy GT's... the used one's they let me test drive, but wouldn't let me test drive the new ones...

I daily drive my sti and I love it. The rough ride doesnt bother me at all, but then again its like a caddy in comparison to the elise. I have racked up nealry 45,000 trouble free miles in a yr with not one problem. I would highly recommend an sti to anyone.

When I went with my buddy when he was trying to decide between an Evo and an STi, they both allowed him to test drive the cars - but you had to sit there and work a deal (including credit checks, etc) with the salesman before they handed over the keys.

OP: if you are really 19, I would bring a parent along for the test drive.

STI's (they dropped the lower case i about a year ago) are great cars. Pretty much non-existant turbo lag (290 ftlbs at 4400 RPM). Bullet-proof sixspeed transmission. Usable back seat.

Get an 2007 instread of the 2006. It has a newer slightly better turbo.

Join NASIOC and get on your regional forum and go to a meet. You can probably talk someone into a test drive and at the very least get a ride-along. (See, regional forums are great!)

I concur. It sounds like a Legacy GT is more what you're looking for, by far more luxurious, AWD and is a sleeper. If I lived in a winter weathe area and had the money (sad I'm saying this to a 19 year old) I would get the Legacy GT in a heart beat over an STi.
