Steering Wheel Covers
Steering Wheel Covers
What's your opinion on them? Even though Acura has some of the best leather trimmed steering wheels ever, I still find myself drawn to steering wheel covers. I don't mean the cheap tacky looking ones, but a more classy or luxurious one. Plus I like the firmer grip. Thoughts...

There are some aftermarket companies that'll do custom OEM replacement steering wheels if you're looking for something more unique with thicker bolstering. I think that'd be the best route to go.

I was never a steering wheel cover user until I started working for my company, who just so happens to manufacture steering wheel covers. While a good majority of the ones we make or our competitors make that are sold in the various auto stores and Walmart are cheesy, there are a few that are actually very subtle and make a nice accent to most interiors. This is my favorite that we make. It's called Bell Automotive Fastline. I used it in my Mazdaspeed6 and my wife's Rav4. It matches both interiors perfect and has a nice hand feel to it.

Another nice one is our stress reliver steering wheel cover which is a simple simulated suede cover with a soft, squishy inside which has the best hand feel to it. Inside grip and reverse inside grip steering wheel covers are other tasteful, simulated leather covers that aren't the typical gaudy ones most people think of. Of course we still offer those as well. After all we are the ones that brought the pink Shaggy steering wheel covers you see everywhere to market lol. Anyway, check out our site to see what we offer www.bellautomotive.com
I personally always have one on my steering wheel now because they protect it from the sun and wear and tear and I like the additional cushioning and thickness they give.

SuperTrooper, I still have to one I got from your company. Love it.
MisterZDX, I've been using steering wheel covers for a while. My advice is to get one that is one color (preferably the color of your steering wheel or dash), and does not have a busy design. Simple is better. I like steering wheel covers because they improve the feel and grip of the steering wheel. For me, it feels more sporty. Try it out. If you don't like it, return it.

I like leather and hate thin steering wheels, so I put a leather steering wheel cover on every vehicle that I've ever owned that didn't come with leather.
Yes, the dealerships sold good-quality leather steering wheel covers...
...sold by the Honda or Acura dealership when I got the steering cover for the Integra.
I installed plain black leather covers for the last plastic-rimmed vehicles with black or gray interiors, and brown covers for tan-colored interiors.
I did get a blue one for my dad's '91 Camry-- really thin steering wheel, and nothing could make that car feel sporty...
Install tip: wear a glove on the hand that is keeping tension on the laces when installing the cover-- that will allow tightening the laces without cutting into the hand/fingers.

Thanks for all the replies. Now I don't feel so bad about covering my nice leather wrapped steering wheel with a cover. My only regret now is that when I tried to remove it and go back to the naked look for awhile, there were noticeable marks that the wheel cover left on my steering wheel. Now I guess I'm stuck leaving it on. Not a problem though.
