Stay away from these cars!!
If you're on the road and see one of these cars next to you, move away or else you will get into an accident!!
-Car and Driver Vol. 56 Issue12 June 2011
Speaking of safety, here are the cars that according to the IIHS currently have the highest rates of collision claims. Small, high-powered vehicles abound. Hybrids make the list because they're generally driven more miles than their gas-only counterparts. Note that there's not an American or European car in sight.
1. Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution
2. Lexus GS450h hybrid
3. Mitsubishi Lancer
4. Scion tc
5. Hyundai Genesis coupe
6. Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart
7. Subaru Impreza WRX
8. Lexus IS F
9. Lexus LS 600hL hybrid
10. Nissan Altima

4. Scion tc
5. Hyundai Genesis coupe
6. Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart
7. Subaru Impreza WRX
8. Lexus IS F

10. Nissan Altima

Not too many "young drivers" that can afford #s 2,8, or 9 on the list. Also, I take issue with the hybrid comment in the article. Neither of those hybrids are particularly good on gas.

Let's play the stereotype game
1. Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution-boy racers
2. Lexus GS450h hybrid-old people
3. Mitsubishi Lancer-boy racers
4. Scion tc- teenage girls and boy racers
5. Hyundai Genesis coupe- boy racers for the most part
6. Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart- wannabe boy racers
7. Subaru Impreza WRX-boy racers
8. Lexus IS F- too much power and rich boy racers
9. Lexus LS 600hL hybrid-seniors
10. Nissan Altima-:no idea really. however, most Altimas I see on the road look a little beat up for some reason, like scratches, dings, ect. people who don't know how to drive

I that the Lancer managed to take up 3 of the top 10 spots. Maybe it's a good thing the Evo is being killed off. No more stupid F&F stunts. Surprised the WRX beat out the STi.

but then again the evo does top the list though
also heres kinda a way to possibly explain that though, with not nearly as many subie dealers in cali, where you got alot more boy racers buying expensive cars (along more the evo, due to being more mitsi dealers there)

But it was based on rates, so I'm guessing percentage. Nothing to do with how many actual units sold.
Maybe you're right, from what I've seen STi drivers are more mature than Evo drivers. Can't believe I said that, but it's true. I don't think the STi has the same familiarity as the Evo among the F&F crowd, which undoubtedly make a huge portion of this list. The Evo is more popular for asphalt stuff, while Subaru owners like to play up the off-road part more.
Another thing could be maybe the Mistubishi responds better to serious modifications? It's one of the most popular engines for 1000hp builds, etc.

now i'm more curious as to why no american/european cars made it.
They drive better? More educated about cars? Or is it just that the people that dont know much about cars just get a japanese car because in all of their minds japanese cars are super reliable. So a higher percentage of novice drivers get japanese cars?

and even then you can probably trace some of the reasoning for those builds back to the 1st gen eclipses out there and such, with alot more people having experience in building high powered 4G63's

lol @ Altima...everytime we used my gf's Altima some dick always honks or cuts us off on purpose. I dont know but it usually happens on a daily basis even if I'm driving normal. oh yeah there's a sticker in the back that says "Peace,Love, and Rescue." They must hate that????
Hhhhmm...if we take out the luxury brand from this list, this wouldve been a ricer list.
