Late to the thread. Congrats on the Viper.
Would suggest a cross-over or SUV as well to replace the BMW.

Here is the first video I saw of the car.... single owner, lived in SoCal and Arizona. Being single owner was a pretty big factor for me, he had all the receipts and paperwork and everything about the car and was one of those meticulous people.

Oh it was probably much worse than I will admit, I had the worst back ache I've ever had, starting towards the tail end of the trip and then lasting for a few days after. Only yesterday did that clear up. And then I also had left leg issues from the clutch and getting in/out over the trip, that appears to have cleared with rest as well. I slept for around 14 hours last night lol. Feel VERY rested today and finally feel recovered.
Good idea on a super plush daily, kind of makes me wanna scrap the Jeep idea....

Dang, another meaning to the phrase "pay to play"...pay with your body as well as your wallet, lol. But definitely a very badass car for the occasion. Wonder if any aftermarket seats can mitigate the harsh ride?
Sounds mean.

Had an awesome weekend with a couple photo shoots (one with a friend's white '04) and a couple car shows - it's so good to be back in the car scene. I mean like, with a car and not just a camera.
a little meetup with friend's Huracan 610-2 last week

It may be angular tricks, but yours looks so much sleeker than the white one.

I have never sat in the Viper.... but also wondered how the visibility is with such a long and wide hood in the front while the seat is on the floor.

Ha - it's pretty funny (and curious) how the ride you drive can affect who you hang out with......... I mean like on a regular basis.
Thanks - yes the Gen2 like mine is my favorite, no surprise there, for me it's all about the curves, look of the headlights, rear end stance, and that sweeping hood - everything comes together to make a menacing whole.
In the photo showing both cars, the angle does make my car's hood look longer than it really is. But make no mistake, it still is a long ass hood.
Visibility over the hood is indeed a challenge, especially with absolutely zero aids to help you. The hood is giant and peering over it from the driver's seat is quite something to get used to. Parking is a challenge, also this car's turning radius is absolutely terrible so you find yourself doing a lot of 3-point turns. You never ever want to scuff or scrape the hood on anything so utmost care must be taken in every maneuver. These are the details that make this car not exactly fun to drive on a daily basis. Nonetheless, I am still on the "honeymoon" period of ownership so I have been driving it each and every chance I get. Oh also, it has a 19 gallon fuel tank, and if you drive this car around the town like city driving for even like 1 hour or so, you will be stopping at the gas station. Highways are much better, if you stay off the gas that is. But it's something I am getting used to - and if I ever feel any negativity about the car, all I have to do is get in and go for a drive and all of that vanishes. No buyer's remorse, no regrets, nothing. It is a fantastic, visceral experience.
I've had the opportunity to drive a fair share of spirited automobiles over the years (LFA and 458 (both at a race track), SLS Black Series (highway), 430, 360, 355, 348, C6ZR1, C7Z06, to name the bigger ones) - and I can tell you this car is far and above the closest thing I have driven to the experience of a race car. It is raw, loud, not comfortable, it doesn't have ABS, cruise control, or traction control, nothing is by-wire, it does absolutely nothing for you - and this is exactly the kind of experience I wanted, in the months leading up to this purchase. I considered LS1 swapped FD3 RX7's that were setup for the racetrack, C6 and C7 Z06 (I was pretty set on the C6Z06 even a month ago) and then one day this car suddenly showed up on one of my email search alerts because the seller had dropped the price a good bit. And all of a sudden the gears started turning and I was like, I was so decided on getting the C6Z06, but what if I can go a bit farther than that and get one of my all-time dream cars, the Viper GTS. I popped in the numbers and such and saw if I could make it work, and behold things worked out.
Funny but the first Viper GTS I ever drove was in 2002 in Vegas, we rented a red one along with a yellow 348 and took them out into Red Rock Canyons for some fun. That Viper was much different as it had been beaten on greatly - the shifter felt like mush, the brakes mush, suspension was floaty, we were all like uhhhhhh..... this sucks. It was fast but more of a conventional kind of fast.
Odd thing, but after driving it for so long, one thought that kept coming back to me was, this experience reminds me of a number of Star Wars space ships. The cockpit in the back, and long front section zooming out forward and slung over. It also sounds like a couple of those older Star Wars space ships when cruising around, a deep, raucous, snarling, slowly ripping menace..... the shape of the car is quite odd and results in a driving position that is quite odd. Not TOO bad once you get used to it somewhat.
Here are a number of Star Wars ships that remind me of the concept and feel:
N-1 Naboo Starfighter
Delta 7 Jedi Starfighter
Naboo Royal Starship - not as much - but even this reminds me of it - just this wild and obscene curvy cruiser

Mine is the Coupe which came after the original Roadster. The original roadster is referred to as Gen 1 and the Coupe is referred to as Gen 2. Not sure why because the Coupe is the same body and underpinnings as the Roadster, just with a hardtop roof and accompanying rear section.

I actually feel oppositely - and I am quite vocal about that - I think it has a much greater presence and feel in person. I have just been showing its best angles. There are some angles which, if you take with a certain lens, the car just looks... WEIRD. And not a good weird. It's a challenge to shoot in flattering angles.

I feel like I wasted a post because I made an egregious typo. I meant to say the car is much more awesome in PERSON. LOL!

That interior leaves much to be desired
It looks all good except for those center vents. They look 15 years older than they are.

the more the merrier, is what I always say.
oh it’s old skool. And that’s a huge part of its appeal. But overall I find this interior not too hard to swallow. It harkens back to the age of older sports cars such as the AC Cobra and such with subtle nods.

The vents work pretty well! Just a little ummmm. Loose. Lol But once they are pointed in a somewhat optimal direction you are all good.
yeah the interior is a bit claustrophobic. I even had a friend who had to open the windows because of the tight fit. If you get in a side accident in this car yeah you are done.

One of the surprising things about this car is how small it is. I mean in pictures it looks rather large, especially with that gigantic hood. But, for instance, to give you an example of a car most of us are familiar with, size wise, a 2009 335i Coupe is 180.6" in length. This car is 176.7", even with that gigantic hood. This size becomes apparent when you sit inside the car - the cockpit is tiny, compared to other cars. If you are over 6'1" or so, (maybe 6'2") - you will not be comfortable in this particular car. The roll-cage setup causes a loss of a few inches behind the seats. One of my friends is 6'4" and actually got into the seat, but was unable to move his legs. I am 5'10" on a good day and find the dimensions to be just fine - the seating position and driving feel is QUITE stellar. All of these things being said, the thought of a 650hp 8.0L V10 underneath the hood, is kind of insane. The road race mods make this car feel quite nimble and easy to throw into turns and such. I look forward to the first road course outing, which will likely be Spring 2019.
