has anyone gotten a speeding ticket?
i freaking just got my first speeding ticket in over 12 years.

does anyone know approx. how much the ticket will be?
im in california and i plan on going to traffic school to get this wiped from my record.
i was doing 56mph in 25mph zone. ooppss:egads:
also going to traffic school will help reduce the cost of the ticket?

56 in a 25!?
You better be happy they didn't give you one for reckless driving too.
Ticket prices vary by state, and the two I've gotten both had the cost somewhere on the ticket. Otherwise I'm sure you can look it up online.
All I know is Cali tickets are expensive.

I know you Californians have traffic school. Worse come to worse, if you wind up in Court, make sure you tell the judge you have a good driving record and you just had a bad lapse in judgement. Ask for traffic school. The judges are usually real cool.
In WA, we also have Deferred Sentence. You pay $100 fine and you are on probabtion for 1 yr. If you have no further moving violations, the speeding disappears. You can only use that exemption once every 7 yrs and if the Judge allows it.

I only got one ticket, I went 85 in a 65 and my ticket was $220, this was in New York a couple summers ago, many people were going just as fast but they caught me. Luckily insurance stayed the same.

I think it is possible to get it reduced, maybe get off it with Traffic School. Make sure you tell the Judge you were also very frazzled due to work and possible lay off coming. Reiterate that you have had a good record and apologize profusely.
going to school will not reduce the amount of the ticket. FOr every year you dont get a ticket you get +1 point on your DL. when you get a ticket you lose points. anywhere from -3 to -6. You max out your positive points at +6. If you have to go to court the 12 years you havent had a ticket will help you out. Im pretty sure the points is uniform for all states. I know it is in FL and Va . (the 2 states I lived and drove in) Good luck and stop speeding.

The price of the ticket depends on how much over the limit and what city you got it in. For example, you went 31 over
. In the city I currently live in, for 10 mph or less over the limit it is $169 then $3 more per mph over that 10, so in this case it would be $231. However, in the city where I work, for 10 mph or less over the limit is $180 then $10 more per mph over that 10, so it would be $390!!! ... all depends on that city's municipal court and how they assess it.And yes generally when you do traffic school aka defensive driving, you have to pay less than the ticket which will be a standard municipal court cost (still at LEAST $100) and then pay for your defensive driving which at least here in Texas is only $25. Also, this will remove it from your record, whereas if you pay the ticket in full it will go on your record.
So although you will have to sit through 6 hrs of boring defensive driving stuff which you already know, it is well worth it and will save you $$$ and not go on your record.

I have a lawyer that defends me on any tickets I get. I always get them dismissed (I'm in FL). It costs me $75 and is worth every penny. Good luck, the ticket isn't the worst part, it's the increase in insurance that kills you.
Insurance that doesn't go up for speeding tickets FTW!
I paid $250 for 31 over
91 in a 60 hahaha, I mean, my bad...
But I believe it was $375 before he "reduced" it, and it was 6 points, reduced to 4, then 2 after defensive driving...grrrr
My officer reduced it before I had to see the judge b/c he needed to deal with a 16yr old posession charge haha, so I got lucky, but I would say that you were trying to keep up with traffic or that you had some type of emergency that you were getting to. But when he pulled you over and asked if you knew you were speeding, you did say "yes", right...?

If CA you are probably going to lose your license for 30 days. And you can't do traffic school if you are 25 above the limit. That is going to cost a shit ton.
What county? The last time I was in court the judge didn't reduce anyones fine.

No. I'm saying my insurance premium doesn't go up just for speeding tickets. Reckless driving, or other things, yes. But just speeding, no; mine doesn't.

Even if you take DD(which takes away up till 4 points), there is no way you can take away more than the points you have. Example, if you have 2 points, only 2 points will be removed. There is no such thing as saving the points for a rainy day, nor will you be credited for having them left over
Also OP, you could of received a reckless driving ticket, plus you can be arrested technically for driving double the speed limit, but no one ever does.

i got my first ticket ever in my entire life on november last year. i was driving 81 on the 805 freeway (65mph limit). i did traffic school. went to court. pleaded guilty. showed my certificate. i asked the judge to reduce the fine and she did. payed 270 instead of 315. its not that much of a difference bt stl i payed less that what im supposed to. and on the traffic court, they will even ask you if you want to do a monthly payment plan or something like that if you can't afford to pay the fine right away.
i forgot. traffic school will not reduce the fine. it will cost you like 30$ extra bt its worth it. your violation won't be on your record so the insurance won't know about it.

Holy Jesus dude...if you got caught doing 56 in a 25 in Oregon they would skin you alive. If memory serves, that's a Class A traffic violation at which point your ass is grass.
You did the crime, do the time.

I want to know what kind of road it was first. I mean, if its some rural ass road with some ridiculously low speed, more understandable then it being through a residential neighborhood...

It depends on how many points you get. You probably get away with one (that's how mine works), but don't get another within 3 or 5 yrs or rates will increase (also, don't get a 6-pointer). This is for any moving violation, all carry points. Of course, at 18 (and male?) you're probably getting killed on insurance as it is.
I have alot of points and my insurance has not gone up. Only went up 2 years ago because of an accident. Then it went back down and it will continue to go down, since the points/tickets I got were 1.5 years ago
in NJ. I have not had a speeding ticket in nearly 15 years, although I still speed (highways only). My 18 y/o son OTOH just received his first speeding ticket (95mph in a 65mph zone) so, I retained an attorney given the license revocation consequences. I'd like to say that I hope he's learned his lesson but, I'm pretty certain that I would probably travel at the same speed or higher under the same conditions -- 1am Saturday morning on a fairly empty interstate. As the cop snagged him via pacing (not radar, vascar or lidar), I am more upset that he did not see that coming -- a fast approaching Crown Vic on an empty hwy at 1am.
