I got pulled over by a cop for going 85 in a 60 in a deserted ass farm road...and it wasn't even 85mph, i was going alot slower. But it was a state trooper and i asked if i could see the radar and he was like, sir we didn't use a radar on you to clock you. He went on saying that he saw me pass up one car and determined like that. What options do I have? Can I go to trial and deny the citation?

 

He didnt catch u on radar, so u might be able to fight it. Its not like he was crusing next to you at the same speed, right?

 

No he wasn't pacing me; he just pulled out of nowhere...wasn't even on the road. The fuckin pig did all these fuckin eye and coordination tests. Country ass cop was like "Have you been smoking marijuana?" with his bright ass flashlight all in my face. It was like midnight last night and i was tryna get home cause I had school in the morning.

The only thing is if he did that timing test, where he watches how fast you go from one point to the next. Thats another way they determine your speed. Either way, I would fight it since he has no proof. It was late and he probably thought you were doing something you werent supposed to be doing. Fight it.

he didn't accuse, i'm sure he asked. I've gotten pulled over many times and the same tests were performed on me. The man was just doing his job. If he didn't check him and down the road he killed someone and was later found to be either wanted, high on weed, drunk etc. then everyone would be on the cops case becasue he didn't check him when he had the chance.

the thing he i was doing about 65 at 55, but he saw me passing a guy who was doing like.. 40 and pulled me. so he probably calculated that the guy that i passed was doing speed limit and i passed him at 20 mph higher or something and i got a ticket for doing 75.. its really messed up how theyre saying they can judge it and whatnot with the naked eye.. but whatever. my first ever offense.. i was only doing 10 over speeed but he gave me 20 over.. pretty messed up. just hope i can clear those points.

The thing that most people aren't aware of is that police officers are qualified to calculate the speed of a car by eye and since they are trained and certified it holds up in court pretty well. They don't only go by how fast you pass another car, but also how fast you go by landmarks, point A to point B, etc...
If you fight it and it is your first offense most likely it will be dropped to a lesser charge. Depending on the mood of the judge of course.

 

I brought my speeding ticket to court because I honestly felt that I wasn't going 46 on the 30 zone. I went to court, was respectful to the judge and the officer, but more importantly I was honest about what I believed and the judge found me not responsible.

I can't say that you'll have the same outcome, but if you're respectful in court, the judge will most likely lower your ticket fee. The guy before me was caught going 92 in a 65 and the judge lowered his ticket to just $100.

If the judge doesn't even lower your ticket, you should still suck it up because you can't honestly say that you weren't speeding.

 

when we make a court appearance though.. do we have to pay for the speeding fine, plus some court fee? i heard there's also a court fee that has to be paid or whatever to get in..

 

i think court fees are done by county. i seem to remember minors with a provisional license in california had to pay a court fee if they were found guilty of speeding...im really not sure about that though. i went to court and plead out and was not given a court fee, although they could just add that into your ticket fine.

 

Happen to my dad when he was driving in arkansas. The cop told him, he clocked him on his stopwatch. Some hick town in the south. He wrote the DA a letter and got it dropped.

Definitely stand up for yourself. Unlike what some others were saying about biting the bullet... forget that when it comes to something that raises your insurance (you're only 17) that'd scar you for a long ass time (3 years at least). And at your age you're already charged up the ying yang for a TL. If he really wanted this to fly in court he would have been using radar.

Let the judge know that you were trying to get home for curfew or something... that you definitely were not doing 85, you were out in the middle of no where so it might have looked like you were going fast but who could he compare you too if you were the only one, and what markers was he using to justify your speeding? Don't admit guilt! And it's your first offense... (i think you said).

When I was 17 I got caught doing 90 in a 55! and ended up getting it lessened to 70 in a 55, 2 pts and $100 fine. Believe me! that was much better than the 5 pts, and $300 fine they wrote the ticket for. Probably could have locked me up too... but I was fortunate.

Go to court!! The judge will be lenient on you because it's your first offence. Cite all the reasons why you think the cop miscalculated. And make sure you are 100% respectful in court! Judges don't like when young guys are cocky bastards. They're usually old grandpas who would sentence you to a lickin' if they were allowed to.

But instead you can probably get off with a reduced fine. Especially if you say you were only going 10 over. Or that you weren't speeding at all because the other guy was going 40. Depends on what you think will sound closest to the truth. Or else just tell the truth as close as you remember it, while you ROUND DOWN!! (How fast were you going anyway?)

 

just my fuckin luck....god fuckin damn... got pulled over tonight too. Heres the damn story...

I was leaving from my other job around 1:00AM which is when we shut the gas station down. I waited for my employee to leave first before i left. As i was about to leave this cop pulls into the gas station. I guess he thinks I'm not supposed to be there. I turn onto the main road and drive cautiously, the cop is still at the gas station. I drive for about a mile and my radar goes off. There was a cop about a mile ahead of me, so i set my cruise to like 43/44 considerin the speed limit was 45. As I pass by the cop. He takes a fuckin fast U-turn and comes up behind me...I was like WTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF. I drive for about FIVE FUCKIN MILES, no signals. Finally i had to slightly step on my brake because signals were approaching. As soon as i do, his lights go on, I pull over, and he is out the car askin for my license. I was like fuckkkk "what did i do wrong?" he said "your brake light on the passenger side was out and if everything goes well you'll be off with a warning" So he goes back to his car for about 20 fucking minutes, and comes back writing me a citation for expired license when i just got one a night ago and a warning for the lights. I even tell him I just got a ticket for that when he asked why my shit was expired. Because i got it thursday night, and friday i got out of skoo at 2:30, and left for work at 3:15, so i didn't have time to get that shit fixed and the DPS is closed today. So I was like "So you gave me a ticket again for something that I already have a ticket for?" And he was like yea you didn get it fixed. I was like "so if I keep driving someone else can pull me over and write me a ticket?" He fuckin RAISED HIS VOICE and he was like "YES YOU CAN, but they probably won't write you a ticket because you just got one" Then I was like tomorrow the DPS is closed and he was like i suggest you not drive then. FUCKIN BITCH I WANTED TO RIP HIS HEAD OFF and SHOVE IT UP HIS ASS.

Cliff Notes: I got ticketed twice in 2 nights for expired license.

here's the thing: If you have expired license why were you driving? I don't know if you're talking about tags on the actual plates or your little ID license. The thing is in the state of Ohio it says right on every lisence i've seen for Ohio DATE IT EXPIRES. plus on Ohio plates we have little stickers we have to put on every year to show the car registared for the year. it goes by the owner's b-day.
like when I "re-registared" my accord I had a choice of going one year getting a yellow sticker or two years (till 03-07) and getting an orange sticker. I went with the orange sticker it was like 75 bucks for 2 years.
What I'm trying to say I know this sounds like an ass but I don't feel sorry for you if you knew the date your license expired and you continued to drive. then why did you drive after getting a ticket for expired lisence. why didn't you go get new lisence or tags. then if the cop pulls you over he has nothing to say.
