Speed Camera Detector?

I hope this isn't a repost but if not, check this out.

I didn't do too much searching on it but I wonder if they make one for the US? The box is ugly but if you hardwired it in, you could probably hide it somehow I would think.

I don't think the U.S. even uses speed cameras that much.

And that quote in your sig is by George Carlin.

They are in the process of installing them in Scottsdale right now, all along the N/S 101.

There are several towns in CO that use those. They are all over the city of Bouder and Ft. Collins.

I think it should be illegal personally but whatever. Seems to me it's sort of entrapment. Kind of like the cop sitting across the street from your local bar waiting for the next person to walk out and jump in the car.

theres about 18 of them in downtown minneapolis

They were having problems where one car would run the light but they would send the ticket out to a different car that either made a legal right turn or was just sitting at the red light

They have them all over Chicago. There's a ton of construction going on on the toll ways (88, 90, 294, 355), so they have them set up all over the place, especially in the work zones. Chicago uses them at lights to get red light runners more than to catch speeders. It's remarkably effective. I don't care much for the speed cameras (I drive an RSX and sometimes it's hard to keep the speed down ), but the red light cameras are a great idea.

Speed cameras are all over D.C., too.
They're a bitch though... they put them low-speed (~25mph) areas, so it's easy to go over.

Aren't speed cameras just stationary radar boxes with a camera? Won't a radar detector catch them?

Around here that is correct. All of the speed cameras in DC are K-Band radar. My V-1 picks them up pretty well. For some reason the K-Band signal doesn't carry very far, or as far as normal K-band radar guns go. Normally I'll pick them up a block or so away with the V-1.

But yeah you're right, the vast majority of them are in 25mph zones that are actual major commuting routes into the city (like 16th street). There's no reason for that street to have a 25 mph speed limit. Nothing but a commuting tax on people who live in VA or MD but work in the city.

Those are redlight cameras. We're talking about speed cameras.

I'm all for the redlight cameras, there's no excuse to run a red light. But speed cameras that send you a ticket for anything 5mph over the speedlimit is stupid.

i had a friend beat a red light camera ticket in NY, at the court hearing, he asked to have the witness testify against him(meaning the camera) and the judge was like.."ok i guess you win, camera's not here to testify..."

just like when an officer doesnt show up for court against your ticket, he went free
