Last August i bought an 89 Acura Legend for the winter for $250. It ran strong all winter. If you feel you need a winter car just make sure it starts up and runs, other than that you should be good.

First of all, sentences and grammar are your friend. Learn how to use them and you will go farther in life.

Second, Vigors are great cars. As long as it runs well through the winter, then it is money well spent.

a few years ago i bought a 92 Vigor from a friend for $1k... it had 180k miles on the clock and had a leaky A/C compressor, cracked windshield, and some fading paint... the tranny also shifted a bit hard but the engine fired up strong every day...

2 wks later, i replaced the front windshield ($180), painted it with a friend ($200) and replaced the compressor with a used one off of ebay ($400) and it was a beautiful car for my beater... i started driving it more than my TL because the i-5 was better on gas mileage but pulled just as hard as my 3.2L...

eventually i sold it to a family friend because she needed a car for work... she offered me $3k for it... i sold it but kinda regretted it after a week i saw the car and it was already in an accident...

here is thread.

Personally I don't think a TL requires a spare car. There are billions of them on the road. With the cost of the "spare" car, gas, maintence, insurance it's more of a headache. Cars run better longer when used daily.

As for the Vigor, they are great cars with a great motor. If you do get it just be sure you won't be spending over $1k on a tune up, timing belt water pump service, spark plugs, filters and all that. For $500 I'd drive it as is as long as it's safe.

My CL is my winter beater (and daily driver all year long)

I'm amazed sometimes when people put away a average car like an acura for the winter. I can understand if it was RWD, but one of the reasons I bought an acura was because I knew I wouldn't feel bad driving it in the snow. It's a
"compromise" all season car.

If you're going to have a beater, you might as well make the "summer only" car special enough to justify the need (and expense) of a winter beater.

If I had an S2000, Miata, or some other fun RWD vehicle, I could see having a winter beater... When I get a real sportscar, I'll get a beater (or just keep my CL for winter only).

I agree whole-heartedly. However, stranger things have been done . . .

Sheesh i felt bad storing the 335i for winter when all it was doing is depreciating. Not like it was rare, hard to replace or bad in snow.

Get a miata and rock the TL as a DD. Now that be FUN.

What are you worried will happen to the TL if you use it during the winter?

Yes, only 2 Honda's shouldn't be used in the winter. S2000 and NSX. When I get my NSX my TL will be my winter car. But when it's nice out the TL is going to sit more than the NSX ever will. lol I like to enjoy my cars.

Not to mention my TL handles great in the snow, and is safer than any "spare" car I would buy. I'd rather have a better handling/safer car. If it gets wrecked then Ohh well it's time to move on to bigger/better cars.

I take great care of my TL and use the stock rims with all seasons in the winter, and TSX A-specs with summer tires in the DUHHH summer. haha

I store my CL every winter. There is nothing wrong with storing a vehicle a person is passionate about.

we have 3 vehicles.

my old ass 99 es300 that i drive to work and will until it dies.
a 97 integra that we bought last year so the wife wouldn't drive her gas guzzling 4runner.
a 2001 4runner that we have b/c we have 3 dogs, and like most women w/o kids, she doesn't want a wagon.
this is a garage queen most of the week. 27 mpg in the integra is better than 16 in the 4runner.

The only cars we would keep in the garage in the winter would be a porsche, nsx or s2000. the s2000 just doesn't seem like a good winter car imo.

oh, having 3 cars makes it much easier to work on one car and have a spare just in case you don't get it fixed in one night

But an old Subaru will give you AWD... Yes, I have to pimp Subaru

That being said, the Vigor is a nice car for the money. IF it's a strong motor, run with it (no pun intended).

I'd rather be in an 04+ TL than a 94 Vigor if I wrecked. You have a better chance of surviving, or being seriously hurt.

Cars can be replaced VERY EASILY, Cars don't last forever, Everyone here will own many cars.

I'm getting off topic, but anyway, it sounds like a good deal. With that $500 you can buy a great set of Winter tires to avoid any kind of wreck. My TL handles great in snow/ice with just all seasons.

I wouldn't get a winter beater, but if you do be sure its reliable, at least you know your new(er) car will start up everytime in the dead cold(hopefully!). It would be a real pain to get stranded cuz you bought a $500 car. Plus the safety features of your newer car could come in handy should someone hit you, lot of bad weather drivers out there!

I used to look forward to driving the CL-S in the snow, I knew with the blizzaks I wasn't getting stuck.

meh, i rolled over in a 94 Legend, and put a 93 legend into wall, and they with stood very well. also a friend of mine wrecked my 89 prelude, hardcore wreck. walked away, i'd feel pretty safe in ANY honda/acura.

its always nice to have a spare vehicle around for when you need it.

i use my CL as my DD while i don't drive my Legend. 4runner is my other spare vehicle, like when its snowing REAL bad, i take it for if i need to pull something or haul something. love it.

Before I got my TL, I was thinking about trading it in/selling my 02 Jeep Liberty. Then I checked with insurance, and it is only a $50 difference per month to keep it, so I did. Turned out to safe my ass in the winter so far, so I am definitely happy.

If you live in a snow prone area, I suggest an SUV
