Somewhat complicated speeding ticket situation

OK guys, I got a speeding ticket for going 76 on 60. Not complaining or ranting.

It's just I got it in Washington [state], but I live in California, and I am in Oregon for two months.

The ticket was 93 bucks as is stated on the paper. The policeman wrote me going at 65 instead of 76. So I will send a check.

But in California, I have to wait for the ticket to be mailed home after being pulled over. When the ticket comes home, I was able to pay the bail AND the traffic school fees.

But the ticket that the Washington police gave me doesn't mention anything for traffic school.

How do I got about doing this traffic school?
Do I do it in California?
Can I do it in Oregon?
If I can do it outside of California, do I turn in the traffic school completion certificate to the California DMV?

Why don't you just call the state police who issued you the ticket and ask them?? I'm sure there's a number on the ticket or do a search..

I live in NC and got a speeding ticket in Va over a year ago. I took the defensive driving course in NC and mailed the certificate to the court in Va along with the appropiate fine.

Does washington offer traffic school? It is up to each individual state. Oregon does not offer traffic school. Taking a california course for an out of state ticket is no good.

Just pay the fine or contest it in court. Washington doesn't offer anything for you to get out of something this minor.

What do you mean by "get out of something?"

I'm not gonna contest since I know it's my fault. No excuses.

Because I do get a point on my driving record for this violation right? I just want to do traffic school to remove that point. I will call the court on the ticket and my insurance guy today to see what I need to do besides paying the fine.

Dammit, called the court and they said Washington does not offer traffic school. Called my insurance guy and he said since Washington does not offer traffic school, then there's nothing I can do but wait three years and the point will disappear.

Why is that? How come Californians get to attend traffic school and remove a point while Washington doesn't?

We don't have traffic school either....

You just get points, wait for them to go away.

I know, I know. It's just that'll be about $200 more per year on my insurance.

Plus I like to have a clean record on everything that I have. Again I'm not complaining about it. My actions, my consequences. I'm just trying to find a way to keep myself clean if the options are available.

You were stopped in Washington state. But, the ticket was issued by California, which required you to pay them for bail and traffic school fees ...and you paid.

So, who said you need to attend traffic school? It sounds to me like you made a donation to the state of California.

No no no, I was giving a situation when I got a speeding ticket in California.

That part had nothing to do with Washington.

Many states dont offer traffic school. Ours doesnt. Suck it up.

Also you shouldnt have informed your insurance. They might not have seen it since it was in another state.

It's OK, the insurance guy is a personal friend.

Also, I heard that even though it's in another state, the information still travels to California. I read it somewhere and some states made like an agreement to share the information.

Some do some dont. What happens in another state doesnt go on your record in the state you live in. (if a state does, it usually only happens with adjoining states) Many insurance companies dont look at out of state records.

It is funny to me how many people on here just say suck it up.

Well I can understand your frustration mdkextreme of washington not offering traffic school. Here in Arizona we do have traffic school and I would also want to take traffic school to avoid 2 points on my license. Thats just common sense! However 96.00 is cheap for a speeding ticket. Its a lot more expensive in AZ! Luckily I haven't had a ticket since 2001! whohooo

if the police officer wrote the speed down wrong it should have been dropped by now. I work for a police department and know plenty of officers and they all say if they mess up on the traffic ticket its easier to just drop it than deal with the crap. must be a new cop or something

other than that...just do what ya gotta do

It is really easy to amend a ticket. Takes very little time.

if its gonna cost $200 more on isurance i would just get a lawyer. I live in washington and just got some generic speeding ticket lawyer. paid like $200 or so and i never had to show up to court and the ticket got dropped to a non moving violation (expired tabs). either that or you could do the whole request for discovery deal....takes a lot longer but a lot of the times i have to goto court (pretty often for work) when lawyers go up to represent a client, the ticket gets dropped out because the court did not deliver the states evidence in a timely matter...but that only really happened alot in snohimish county...good luck!
