Something "funny" from Mercedes
Last year Mercedes would allow us to use "conquest cash" if someone had a loan on one of our competitors and bought an E Class. Last year those competitors were Lexus, BMW, Audi, and Acura.
MB re-introduced this for now but guess what... Acura got dropped from the list!
MB says Lexus, BMW, and Audi are "key competitors."

Was that decision strictly because MB didn't see Acura as a true competitor any longer based off of Acura's products or because there were too many Acura to Mercedes trades to justify the need?

The sizzle in the Steak
Not shocking to see that Acura and Infiniti are not viewed as competitors by MB.

I seriously doubt this was the case. We get a ton of people with BMWs, Lexus, and Audis. I guess last year Acura was a competitor but this year they're not. Interestingly enough, last year when factory reps presented new models they had Acura listed but this year I didn't see that.

OP,
So, would you be the guy to get me a good deal on a E550 Coupe?
Not really kidding.

I'm sure Infiniti is having a grand time selling Infintis in Germany now to compete directly with BMW. I wonder how that's going anyway... As for Acura they would be lucky just to keep their "luxury brand" prestige if they don't change direction, but we've had this talk a thousand times already.

I'm not surprised Infiniti would not be on the list since Mercedes, or more specifically Daimler is entering into a co-op partnership with Nissan, but more importantly, Infiniti vehicles have a much different design philosphy and driving dynamic from MB. I'm even surprised BMW is on the list since, like Infiniti they too have a more sports oriented driving philosphy/design focus where as MB does not.
Not surprised Acura was dropped from the list though since as of right now, they are heading in a questionable direction with their product line!

The US dealers most likely face stiff penalties from the Manufacturer if one of their cars shows up in a foreign port.

I don't want to speak for him but I'm pretty sure he could ship the car from Cali to AZ for you. I believe he means he can't sell to "shippers" or "exporters". My guess is that you can buy a Mercedes for less money in the US than you could in Europe or Asia. To protect their other markets, they most likely forbid their US dealers from selling cars for export. You could most likely sell a E550 in China for a $20K-30K profit after all shipping expenses.

I think Acura is starting to restrict exporting their cars. When I was with Acura I sold a few to China but I hear now they are trying to stop that.
For an MB dealer we get our production cut by 1 unit and get a massive fine... sometimes $10,000.00 or more. In fact, for certain cars, if the dealership was in Baltimore and you lived in Washington, D.C. I couldn't sell you a vehicle (GLs, SLS, SL, S, etc...). MB is really trying to force dealers to sell cars only to people who live in their immediate market. This is a good thing for dealers but bad for customers and sales people.
MB and Nissan/Renault did enter into a partnership my understanding is Nissan gets MB tech and MB uses Renault tech for small car technologies but I don't think this is why Infiniti isn't on the list of competitors. MB/GM/BMW already worked together on a hybrid... ML450 and BMW X5 hybrid (same system). GM dropped out. MB and BMW already are trying to work together on transmissions.

No respect for Acura-even with the new 4G (which is supposed to be moving up in class).
