So, we all know Yamaha made the engine for
the Taurus SHO. And that they make the V8 for the Volvo XC-90.
But did you know they are in bed with Toyota, too? I just learned, while working with Yamaha on another coporate video/commercial, that Yamaha makes the V-8 engines for Toyotas trucks.
I totally did not know that, and what the rep was unable to tell me was if that means they make the V-8s for lexus, too???
Just some interesting FYI

I didn't know they made the celica engine...so that means that make the engine in the lotus elise, too.
After these past two gigs with Yahama..this last one taking me to thier factories/test facilities. I really respect this company, and the people they hire. They are really down to earth cool people who all participate and use the products designed.
Yamaha ftw indeed.

Yamaha
Great great engines, they had there problems, which are generally easy to fix (rod bearings for the V6 SHOs)
Heres a little tid bit of what Yamaha has done for automobiles: http://www.yamaha-motor.co.jp/global.../am/index.html
My engine is the little chrome one at the bottom

Regarding the Elise, also outdated, 2004.

Elise is coming to America with Toyota's Yamaha-designed 2ZZ-GE in 2004.

Yamaha also makes pianos. But, those don't go into cars.
That's all.

^^^^I have never seen anything that indicated that, and doing a search just now, I don't find any evidence thereof...
something unrelated you may already know about the LS460:
something unrelated you may already know about the LS460:
Lexus' 380 horsepower 4.6-liter V8 has overtaken BMWs 367 horsepower 4.8-liter V8, and nearly matches Mercedes-Benzs all-new 388 horsepower 5.0-liter V8. Keep in mind the fact that Lexus engineers ensured that the LS 460s motor is even smoother, quieter and more refined

Who ever has the will to research, I think the answers are worth it. The whole thing amazes me.

Well there is no V8 in the Avalon...
So the non-Yamaha V8 would be the LS, GS and SC ?

I believe Yamaha only had a part (The 8000 RPM redline part) in making the Celica's 1.8 and it was only the 180HP version of the 1.8 found in the GT-S (and now several other models) Although I could be wrong.

I'm pretty sure that Toyota owns a large chunk of Yamaha.

A lot of Japanese companies fall under one big umbrella of larger corporations (ie Fuji Heavy industries)

According to Yamaha's website, Toyota owns 4.4% of Yamaha Motors. The other major shareholders being various Japanese banks.
IIRC, Yamaha also plays a role in the Toyota F1 team.

Add to the list brass instruments.
Their consumer home equipemnt is not nearly as good as it used to be, it has gone down market over the last 15 years and is rather pedestrian now.

I didnt know that about their home audio, havent really been keeping track of it... that is too bad, I knew they used to be at the forefront of "prosumer" stuff..

Ok, I got: Vibe Gt/Matrix XRS, Corolla XRS, Celica GTS, and the Lotus Elise/Exige engine are all the 2ZZ-FE Toyota engine in which the head was done by Yamaha.
And these are the engines they made for really high performance (I assume Formula One) http://www.allf1.info/engines/yamaha.php

I didn't mean to convey they had dropped to the level of say Sony audio gear. The biggest issue is with the coming of multi-channel audio HUGE consumer money flowed into home audio via home theaters, many of the high-fi (Yamaha has always been mid-fi at best) brands invigorated their marketing and designed top flight gear for not much more than the upper end of the mass market stuff. Now that having a "real" home theater is gonna run over 20K easy it has become easier for people to fit quality componant gear in their budget. Although it isn't scientific pick up a 2 channel Japanese receiver from the 70s and compare to one today, they used to be built with huge caps and massive transformers now they aren't, one reason that many people are seeking out 70's era receivers from Pioneer/Sansui et al for budget 2 channel systems. Bottom line is Yamaha and Pioneer are two examples of manufacturers that have whored out to the Best Buys of the world and have lost their edge. IMHO
Yamaha is none the less an excellent company which is amazingly diverse!
