In SC your living real good making that. I won't put what I bring home, but @ 25 yr's old, I can't complain at all.

A mechanical engineer for Progress Energy can bring home a 100+ easy.

there is an opening in Raleigh NC at www.progress-energy.com. Just an FYI.

My company needs EEs BADLY. We can't hire fast enough. Oh, and no state income tax in TX. Property taxes are relatively high, but you gotta trade somewhere.

hmm...did he have scholarship/grant and did he participate in any internship program while at school? If so, he probably didn't pay for school...and on top of that, he was probably making $3k a month as a student engineer for 20 months or so....if he didn't have much expense, he probably saved $2k a month for a total of $40k while still at school. Then after another 4 years of full-time work at $70k a year, if he was able to save $15k a year, that's another $60k. $60k + $40k....that should be enough to buy that R8, assuming he is not financing the car?

He must have REALLY wanted an R8 to do this. I can't imagine someone who is that fiscally responsible spending that much on a car at that age, but who knows. Also, holding a job that pays $3k/month while finishing engineering school in 4-5 years seems far fetched. Not impossible, but I would have to see it to believe it.

A quick look on Yahoo! Autos yielded no '08 or '09 for less than $92k.

The production numbers seem low enough to support it.

not too hard to believe. i see 20 somethings driving ferraris all f*in day with ZERO income.

but in the grand scheme of things, its really not too unusual these days for someone to have a car thats more than their annual salary. he must have some loot on the side.

haha word. i was just having a convo at work literally 5 minutes ago discussing what salary would be needed to not have a roommate (NYC). we determined that 75k is a good over/under to be able to rent your own place. let alone owning something, or having any sort of car payment in general.

sorry i never saw your original post.

that salary range is not a lot by any means but you can live comfortably for sure. i live in a lake area so housing is more expensive here than in the immediate areas, but still not unreasonable. now if you want to live on the lake - that's another story.

yeah NY is horrible...i have friends that live there so i know how crazy it is. with this salary range (as the post above me suggests) you'd barely be beyond struggling, lol.

i'm from the north and since i moved down here i've never looked back. it would take nothing short of an act of god to get me to move back up there. in all honesty, they could pay me double my salary and i still would not move back up there. the weather just absolutely kills me.

Im so done with NY, especially Long Island. Im moving away the first chance I get.

oh and Go Blue! I was just there over labor day weekend for the football game against Western Michigan. I have never seen an atmosphere like it before. Ann Arbor FTW.

and my goal down the road is to get my MBA at UMich also lol.

Am i the only one here that is an engineering tech then? since everyone seems to be engineers
but i'm trying to start moving more towards the business side of things, hopefully get an R8 in my parent's garage soon
I can't imagine spending more than my yearly salary on a car, unless most if not all was paid for in cash.... but then i'd just purchase some sort of investment or property instead

I work with an EET major who is every bit as capable as another engineer. It doesn't matter your major as much as your knowledge, drive, and teachability.
