Drove down to Wisconsin today and picked up a used 2014 Honda CRV-EX with 18k miles. This will be the grocery hauler in the winter while the Charger is down. The wife and kids will be in it most of the time so I wanted something dependable with AWD. Already got plans for snow tires, hid kit, and light window tint. It snowed on the way to Wisconsin today
When I moved to Hawaii I shipped a car here. It was a painless process but a little pricey at around $2300 if memory serves me right. A shipping company (Matson) came right to my door (I lived on the East Coast), loaded it on a truck which carried it to a loading dock where it was then shipped. Arrived about a week after I got here. I would imagine shipping a car from Hawaii wouldn't be all that different.
Cost around $1200. Fuel tank has to be quarter tank or below so a lot of guys have to drive around the island a little bit to burn off gas. Can take anywhere from a week to a month to ship. If you car is the first one on the boat you'll be waiting a while but if its the last one you'll get your car pretty quick.

Congrats! Looks good.
Mind if I ask how the deal was? Just curious!
Paid 24k. Got 7k for the wife's Xterra.

The cheapest CRV-EX in this area (250 mile range) was around 28k. We were able to get it for 24k.
Congrats on the CRV! You'll have to update the thread when you find out how the Honda AWD handles in the snow. My wife's Rav4 has 4WD but haven't got to test it out being it barely snows here.
The original owner of my Charger was stationed in Hawaii so it was shipped from LA to there and eventually from there to LA again. Pretty cool cars can make their way across the Pacific that easily.
Thx bro. I'm on the upper peninsula of Michigan about 5 minutes away from Michigan Tech.
You been over to the Porcupine mtns yet?? Best time is in the fall when color is at its peak. You simply cant beat the views. Some of the falls (Black river harbor area) are great to go check out and walk in the fall, Spring time if you want to see them really flowing

Haven't made it there yet. Just got a new addition to the family in July so the little one uses up any spare time we might've had.
That must have been cold haha. I can honestly say that I've never worked on the TL which is a nice departure from the BMW world. This will change when it gets to transmission fluid time though.

Cold??? Its still T-Shirt weather.
I wasnt fixing something wrong, i was making something better And no, even IF it were cold out, cold as in -20 my garage is 70+ deg
Thinking about getting the 2015 HR-V as a second car whenever Honda starts selling them. Supposed to be between $19 - $21k. Smaller than the CR-V but it should work for me since I don't have a lot of people and things to haul and I'm sure it will get better gas mileage than my TL.

I couldn't imagine going smaller than the CRV. Its bigger on the inside than the Xterra with more leg room in the back seat which is good for the kids.
I still wouldnt consider the temps in the mid west cold yet . I dont wear anything more than a light fall jacket/ fleece till its less than 15-20 deg.
Completely agree, I haven't even worn a jacket yet...not even on the day it was snowing. I've lived up here my whole life. I hate the cold but I deal with it for the low cost of living, great area, and great people.
I live in upper Michigan now. 5 minutes away from Michigan Tech. This area got over 300 inches of snow last winter.
Snow tires. My dads genesis hasnt had an issue yet. He has seen a few good snow storms up in Ironwood MI with it with all the hills and hasnt gotten stuck. Plowed thru a 14" snow storm here last year without missing a beat.

Just picked up a set of these Bridgestone Blizzaks today Can't wait for the snow now.
