So Cal: Tracks

Some of my friends and I are planning to go to racing tracks around So. Cal.

Where are some great tracks for the first timers? Any pricings?

I'm in LA area!

Thanks guys

For road course, your best bets are Willow Springs and Buttonwillow. Find one of the track events that is held there with open enrollment and the price is only around $100 for maybe 15 or so laps in your car. You can also sign up for one of the many courses they have there as well if you want more time on the track, though those are pricey.

For drags, Irwindale and Pomona Fair Grounds both have drag strips.

For an oval course with a built in road course, try California Speedway. Not sure about pricing though.

These guys do some great Time Trials and Driving Schools. Everyone is welcome, not just Alfas. Might want to give them a call as the web site has not been updated recently.

Pomona is not longer open to the public (hasn't been for 5-6 years). California speedway has a 1/4 mile.

But expect a road course day to run you 2-300, not $100

They do, but give it a shot this weekend, just make sure that you have contacted someone to make sure they aren't booked. Don't expect to just show up, but that's just my opinion

You will need a helmet, as well as some other things, the website should tell you.

Did you pre-register online? Most of these events require pre-registration. I'm assuming you're talking about Speed Venture this coming weekend? I haven't run with them before, but I have several friends who have. They all say that Speed Venture's events are very nice. So you should have some good fun times out there.

I run with Redline (http://www.redlinetrackevents.com) the most. Their events are also very nice and well organized. Check them out too if you end up not going to the event this weekend.

Definitely go to a race shop and try them all on. I had to try on 6-7 different ones before I found one that fit.

Cheers,

I'd recommend you to stick with a helmet (any brand) with SA rating rather than M rating. M-rated helmets are for motorcycles. Some organizations do not allow M-rated helmets. Sube Sports in Hungtington Beach should have helmets for you to test fit before buying.

Word. You can find one for about $80-$100 there. Man, I miss that store. Squash air fresheners were probably their most sold item there, lol.
