SL550 vs. Fartcan Civic vs. Police Van
My cousin gave me his SL550 to use while he was away to service it, tint windows and have it detailed. He went to Dubai with his wife for a week (stayed at that ridiculous hotel with the tennis court like 1000 feet in the air....Burj Al Arab or something). So he told me enjoy it too, but I really didn't have time to, nor do I need an extra car to use because I have enough as it is...Anyhow, this past saturday the weather was nice, so I figured I'd take the wife out to NYC at night in the SL for dinner and a movie...Top down, windows up (how :ghey: ) and I was good to go...It wasn't exactly warm, but it wasn't freezing either, like 45 to 50 degrees, a little too chilly to be windows down the whole time. I had them down at cruising speed but rolled them up once I got on the highway. Anyway on the way home, I'm at a stoplight, this civic with 4 colors for a paintjob rolls up next to me...The guy's revving his engine and gives me the nod...I give him the nod and turn away in disbelief. He starts revving the engine (engine braking too!), and off he goes! I purposely leave the light late to give him the win. The second light I'm lined up next to him again, but this time there's a police van to my left. The Police van takes the early lead because you know, they can't wait like we do for the light to actually change before going 
, and the civic, still revvving his engine, pulls off at the same acceleration speed as I'm going, waiting for me to launch while the police van is a few hundred feet in front of me...I punch the gas for a half a second for the engine to kick back and roar, and off the civic goes again, passing the police van. Guess who got pulled over for passing the cop at 45 mph in a 30mph zone? Not meeee!

SL550's are so nice....550 is much improved over the old 500 as well. Its too bad they completely fucked up the 2009 model I was trying to talk my dad into one but he ended up going with the E92 M3. Only 6 more months...

Thats why I never street race, despite how tempted I get. I have a feeling I'll break eventually, but I'm glad its later rather than sooner. I drive like an idiot sometimes within safe and nearly legal limits but when someone wants to line up on the freeway or at a light I turn into a pussy. Who knows if there will be a cop car at the corner of the next street or block.
All I can think about is my friends and their SR22 insurance rates....
