Signature Headlights

Everyone knows about BMW's signature halo head/running lights.
I will admit; I think they look pretty dang good.

After posting the thread about the new upcoming A4/S4, I got to thinking.

Do you think the new running LED in the headlight housing might be Audi's new 'signature' thing. You think it will stay on the car for future generations.

I know this is just Azine, but I know the response from everyone here has been explosive, so who's not to say that others wouldn't think the same prompting Audi to keep them??

I think they look enticingly devilish.

Give your thoughts.

German headlights (Bosch, Valeo, Hella) may be aesthetically pleasing but they are put to shame by Japanese headlight makers such as Stanley when it comes to performance. The most potent headlight on the road right now is from an 04-05 Lexus LS430 (ultra wide beam) followed by headlights in 00-05 Honda S2000, 04+ TL has the most potent bi-xenon headlight. Being not satisfied with that the European headlight makers had to offer Porsche started having most of their headlights made by Japanese headlight maker Koito/Stanley.

BTW I wouldnt say it would be an Audi signature since most other auto makers have started using LED based headlights already as well, such as Lexus LS600h.

I guess I mis-stated the title. The lights aren't the actual headlights. These are running lights that are on all the time. Even when the actual headlights are on. More for aesthetics than performance.

Unless that was just a rant about actual headlights.

I like the A5's smooth row of LEDs vs. the new A4, however both look pretty sick. I think Halos are pretty played out....

halos are being played out as the poster above said, the led DRL's that audi has been doing is going to be their new signature. I think acura's may be funky looking cars...

i agree with jjaber.

A5 LED setup is more menacing. the straight line of LEDs is more distinguishable from farther distances.

I think they look pretty cool, and will be the thing for Audi. Now, lets see who's first to "copy" the idea.

The A5 is sexy hot......

^^ Funny thing you say that because Audi actually copied AM V8 Vantage, AFAIK Vantage was the first car to have LED DRLs, first year of production was 05.

^^^^^ I stand corrected. Audi is the SECOND car to use LED's as standard DRL's.

Thanks.

They will definitely be Audi's signature. I like the R8's the best.

i get everytime i see one on the road. and when one's behind me on the highway, i feel like i should oblige and change lanes.

I have already seen on this forum people modding their car for this feature.

That's not correct, the Audi A8 has had LED DRLs since at least 2004 when it was redesigned.

Correct me if I am wrong but I think its only the S8 that comes with 5 LEDs in the DRL opening, which still is circular arrangement as it is in the current 07-08 TL DRL. The more vivid arrangement of LED arrays such as A5/AM Vantage etc was first started by the AM vantage . First headlight to incorporate LED low beam was/is the LS600h

No, the regular A8's had them too, hidden behind the frosted glass lens, you can hardly tell they're there. Nowhere near as vivid as the AM, but nonetheless, they were there.

OK, too late to edit.

It was the W12 model that had them. The regular V8 models didn't. Until the S8 debuted.

Q45, and it was a reg HID setup not LEDs. just a very unique projector design.

Not performance wise..

I don't think you could group all of the headlights of different Audi models and call it their signature as each has a unique design. However, I do agree that LEDs will be included on more and more cars as time progresses, especially if electric only cars come into play.

I love the modern look LEDs give to headlights and have been using them for a while.. here's my old TL w/ LED parking and custom LED running lights:

I voted no. i like LEDs. matter of fact when i rewired my semi trailer i ran LEDs clear through the trailer(it was about an extra 500-600 bucks). what's gay is running lights you can't turn off. dad's GMC Sierra has the damn retarded running lights you can't turn off so we pulled the fuse. it's still mighty gay. if it's 12 o clock noon or 1 in the afternoon and no snow or rain or cloudy why do you need you're lights on. . yes i know it's easier for other drivers to see you. but all the time is it really needed?
