Thumbs down Side Window Exploded!!

We were in my parent's 2007 CR-V on the highway doing about 70 mph, when all of a sudden the front passenger side window exploded. I'm pretty sure nothing hit the window. We went straight to the dealer and of course they refuse to cover it. They claim the only way for this to happen is for something to the hit window. I'm planning calling Honda corporate later and see what they say, but I doubt they'll agree to cover this. Has anyone ever seen or heard this happen before?

We had already been driving the car for at least a hour. Outside temps were around 37-39.

I've seen this happen with sunroofs, something about a pressure change; actually I think it happened in some e90s.

Put yourself in the dealership's shoes though.... it is kinda hard to believe. "We were driving on the freeway when all of a sudden the side window just exploded without warning or impact." What would you think of that?

Unless they're hiding something thats well-known, which sometimes dealerships do. Any other reported cases of broken windows on CRVs?

At least your insurance will cover it if your deductible is low enough.

I don't see how that could happen w/o something hitting the window.

Your car insurance should have glass coverage. They should fix it for free with no rate changes.

05 Explorer's had a problem with the tail gate window exploding. They issued a recall/TSB after enough people filed claims. My aunts 05 Explorer tail gate window just blew out for now reason.
So it does happen. But your never going to prove it to a dealer. Best bet is file a complaint with the NHTSA. www.NHTSA.gov

It's not the spark plug, it's ceramic either from the top of a plug or another source However on the highway I highly doubt this occurrence. As seen here it's the ceramic not a plug. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxNvcsbxhfE

My "detective" skills make me think we aren't being told the whole truth. It seems kind of unlikely that you were driving at 70 it broke, and then you pulled over and took pictures, something like that is fairy shocking and taking pictures usually isn't the first thing on someone's mind after it happens, not to mention there is nothing else in the car, what were you carrying your digital camera in, your murse? If the pictures were not taken immediately after did the passengers, you did say "we" were in the car, just sitting in broken glass? I know it's safety glass but it can still cut you and common sense would tell you to clean it off the seats. In my mind the pictures don't match the story - maybe I'm way off, but if it looks like a duck... you know what they say.

It happens. Trust me.

It happened to us while we were driving through -I forget where-. We were on vacation in a rental Grand Caravan. Driving down the highway, the sliding door glass broke completely; It just shattered. I had my head turned away from the door looking out the opposite window and at first I thought a can of Coke exploded in our cooler, thats exactly what it sounded like. Then I feel the wind coming in and sure enough there is no more side window.

We were all convinced it had something to do with the pressure inside the van compared to the air pressure outside. That's the only reasonable thing we could think of.

I never said I had a camera in the car and pulled over to take the pictures right away. I took the pictures after we got home. Yes, I had other people in the car including someone sitting in the front passenger seat, and he was lucky he didn't get cut. We did stop on the shoulder for a minute just to make sure everyone was ok. I'm sorry but I'm not going to clean off broken glass when no one is hurt with other cars going by 70 mph inches away from me. That just puts us in a more dangerous situation. Maybe something did hit the window but I didn't see anything and I have no reason to lie on an internet forum. I would've came up with a better story if I wanted to make something up.

I remember reading about this happening to TSX and TL sunroofs, but never a window. Good luck with the repairs.

I know the OP already cleared things up, but I was going to say something too.

This has got to be the dumbest thing I have ever seen written by you.

1. Who said anything about them taking the pictures as they IMMEDIATELY pulled over?

2. I always keep my digital camera in my glove box just in case anything happens where I need to take a picture. Couldn't he just as easily had his camera in his glove box, center console, or even pocket (if it's a new thin point-and-shoot that could easily fit).

3. I just saw where you quoted him saying "we" were in the car so you are already aware that there were passengers. Couldn't a woman just as easily had one in her purse?

Don't plan on being a "detective" any time soon

I've certainly said dumber things

I have no intentions of being a detective, it just strikes me as odd that people would sit in broken glass instead of cleaning it off - the only logical way I can think people would sit in it for more then a few minutes is if pictures were taken immediately after it happened. Having had a few hundred pieces of safety glass embedded in my skull after a car accident I know how sharp it can be
