should I invest in an aftermarket alarm or not?
Hey what's up! I have a 2007 Acura TL Type S. The lip spoiler got robbed and in the process messed up the paint job on top of the trunk. Insurance will take care of it but I have to pay a 500 deductible.
My question is should I put in an aftermarket alarm that has motion/shock sensors to prevent further theft?
If so I know a spot they charge 400, Acura dealer charging 850, I was thinking of paying extra cause Acura installed one comes with life time warranty and since they are installing it and if they mess up any electronics my warranty won't be void.
I will be also moving in three months to a far better area so is it still worth the installation of the alarm because at the end of the day I have insurance and they can just take care of it.
Any feedback will help thanks so much!

Personally, I think an alarm is worthless if you park on the street.
I installed an alarm (viper with a remote start) on my first car, a 95 mazda millenia. I also put in a nice headunit. One day, I parked it on the street, in front of a private house, when I came to it in the morning I saw the passenger window busted and the headunit stolen. They opened the hood and twisted off the alarm from making noise. And no one bothered to look when it went off and call the cops - not from the private house nor the building across the street.

Yea I parked it in the street and the factory alarm is worthless unless they open the door. I do have lo jack but that's not going to do anything to prevent stealing parts. Three more months I am moving and will have private parking its just the next three months I want to protect it some how.

CL in lawnmower status
just see how much getting a lower deductible will cost, my insurance has an option to go down to 100 dollar deductible.
but i have an aftermarket alarm on my cl
doesn't give too much protection, had a hit and run in the work parking lot, by the time i got to the window to see everything looked fine, no cars around, and couldn't tell she'd been hit from further away
but then when you set your shock sensor to be that sensitive to pick up on such small things other things may set it off too, like strong gusts of wind or echoing traffic noise, as what frequently happened to mine. so when the alarm went off that day i figured the same.
in front of my house yes, i do like it for the fact that it will wake me up or my dog, and i will come outside, but when out somewhere i think they are pretty much useless

I have never bothered with aftermarket alarms except on my S2000. If a professional thief wants something from your car, they will get it, alarm or no. In addition, if a pro wants to take your car, they will. Most people ignore alarms anyway and that's what insurance is for. Alarms mostly are for scaring joyriding punks or amateur thieves anyway, prompting them to move on to the next car.
So why do I have one on the S2000? High-profile car with seats that ricers love. I installed a pager alarm with a remote unit so that if there's a break-in, I will be notified immediately and can potentially either witness or (God forbid) intervene in the crime. My S2000 is always in my garage or within eyesight view of whatever location I'm at when it's out, and that ultimately provides the best protection.

Meh. Not worth the money. The only reason why I would get an aftermarket alarm for my TL is for remote start.
