Should I get a 2011 370Z Touring at this price?
#41
Well Nissan made the AT vs MT argument more difficult with the 370Z in that the AT is faster (from what I understand anyway). If the OP is in NYC proper then there's even MORE reason for an AT. (Nothing more miserable than an MT while stuck in Holland Tunnel traffic on Varick Street during rush hour.)
But , the essence of a sports car is a FULLY manual tranny.

This is the thing I dont get, do people realize that opting for an auto to be 0.3 seconds faster to 60 is useless unelss you are competitively racing around a track. A manual is more engaging and fun.
I hate ferrari for deciding that because their auto can shift faster than a human, they shouldn't even offer a manual! Not everyone drives around a track racing against lambos!

Thus, it was no longer worth the extra cost of production just like with Lamborghini.

I thought that was just with the Infiniti's. Didn't know the AT 370Zs were quicker than the MTs.
You know whose fault that is? The consumer. Ferrari extended their manual option for 1 more year because of all these people begging Ferrari that it was still a wanted option. After that year, there were hardly any difference in MT sales from previous years.

If the $38K isn't too much for you, get it, and see if you can get 0% financing- then take your time paying it off. If interest on a loan is involved, then the car's cost comes into consideration more, and don't forget about sales tax and registration as this will add ~ $3000-$3500 more depending where you live. The auto vs. manual decision lies in whether you'll be using it for commuting and how much traffic you see on a regular basis. I have a 6MT MR-2 Spyder which is my recreational car, but my TL is AT and I'm actually happy it is (after working a night shift which I do often, it's nice to just have it take me home'.

These are all good points that everyone is posting. I appreciate it greatly. I am not calculating tax, tags,++, but the financing is not an issue unless it is less than 2%, then I would take advantage of that. My credit score is an 842 so I can sign my name to just about anything and get it.
The auto/manual trans question is very simple to me. I would like to get an manual but my wife can't drive it then. While that would be a good thing in theory, in the real world that does not keep a happy wife. The saying goes, "happy wife, happy life". Therefore, the manual trans is out.
Many years ago I got a chance to drive a F348 6-speed and it was an experience that will never fade. There is just nothing like an Italian 6-speed in a car like that. It is/was out the question for affordability, but I understand the purist approach to driving an awesome sports car should be with a manual trans.
The fact that many manufactures are moving away from manual transmissions to semi or fully automatic, I think is partially about they are supplying what the buyers want, but in pursuit of performance, these transmissions are getting so good and so fast that even professional race car drivers can't shift in less than 60 ms. F1 is fully automatic as is SCCA Pro class I think. Lemans and Rolex series cars are too from what I understand. These transmissions are more reliable, faster and efficient, thus they make the cars faster. So in reality by my selection of an automatic I am accomplishing many things to my advantage.

I am in the process of buying a 300ZX convertible (AT), and since the wife doesn't drive manual, I wanted it to be for her as well, so if this is a consideration, AT sounds like the way to go for you. If it's for you alone, get the 6 speed.

If I was single, there are a lot of things I would be doing differently. The life of a Playboy are long gone. I'm not willing to trade "getting some" for a manual transmission.

That's fine, but when an auto manufacturer begins replacing their lineup of sports cars to only include auto transmissions because they want to increase sales and then claim it's because it's 0.2 second faster than a manual is a bunch of
If they continue to offer both I wouldn't have as much of a gripe,

This. As much as you, I, or anyone else thinks something should be, it doesn't matter in the end.

OP - if it were me, I'd get the Cayman, but I'm very biased as that's the Porsche I want (the S, specifically, too). Ultimately, you should drive both and get whichever you like best.

What these manufacturers need to do is create an automatic tranny that can be literally shifted like a manual, including a cluth pedal. Not practical but it would be flipping awesome and make both sides happy.

Boy that would be cool. Maybe have a full manual mode requiring a clutch and then a full auto mode too so all drivers could be satisfied. If it were standardized the cost would be reduced and then they would not have to have manual or auto only cars.

I'm also in the manual camp, especially for a car like this, but that's been fairly well discussed. As for the Z with any transmission, I'd make sure it was the right car regardless of price. If you can, try to take a long drive in one and pay attention to the noise and visibility, as they can both be issues for a lot of people. If they are for you, you may prefer an Infiniti. Or a Corvette.

You are right. The Infiniti does not do it for me on a styling front, and the Corvette would be the Z06 Carbon Edition, but that is about $100k. The ZR1 would be ideal, but $115K for a Vette? Also they are not offered in the Auto I think.
On a side note I just drove my TL in the snow for the first time and was very impressed how it handled with TC on. With it off it was a handful. Nothing but double over steer. It is better to keep the TC on at all times unless I am in a big open parking lot with nobody around.

Get a cpo cayman s with less than 10k miles. No one will ever know that it is used except you and you will save $10-15k. Or you can get a cpo cayman r for the price of a new cayman s. I would hardly consider a couple thousand miles on a car owned for less than a few months used.

Meh I would wait, if you have ever checked out Nagtroc, they said the revised GTR that is coming out in 2013 is getting another 30-45 HP, almost 600 HP for under 100k, I am assuming you are a nissan guy since you put up the 370z info up here, or get you a 2012 gtr for about 75-85k used with low low miles.

Sounds good! I am out of power as a result of the storm on the east coast. This will by my last post until at least Sunday when everything gets restored.

For his sake, I hope he does get his LFA, and I hope he never comes back here.
This is all so childish at this point. Who really gives a shit?

In the end it doesn't really matter, but those who lie to "kick it" online are seriously sad.
So yes I agree P, I truly hope this guy gets his LFA and proves us wrong, so far it's looking like a BoostedJack/Moneyman2011 situation.

Its sad if the whole LFA thing is untrue. But it still doesn't really matter. Everyone has had a good laugh...i suppose. But I guess I'm looking at it in the grander scheme. It has no bearing on my life one way or the other. I just want a one piece aluminum drive shaft.
Now if LFA man were selling those.....

Bingo. We have members here who own 10+ year old cars to those who drive F cars like my brah Rick and literally everything in between.
