should i do it? 2001 tacoma

In our neighborhood sits a tan regular cab tacoma. It has been sitting for a few months with a flat and is out of inspection. It is in decent shape and i have never seen any leaking fluids.

It's a 4 or 5 speed manual, alloy wheels, and roll up windows.

There is a magnet on the side with a phone number for their business, so i call it. i left a message and the guy called me back this morning. It has 150k and he's not sure of the motor size. I see the truck all the time so i know the general condition. He says kbb is about 3500 and he would sell it for $3k and he'd replace the tire.

I have an itchy finger, not stinky.

I'll see what the wife says snce we already have three vehicles for the two of us.

unless you need it, thats 3000$ (plus insurance $) gaining interest.
50-100$ gets you some teenage kids in a ford ranger to haul some stuff.

Considering the age, mileage, and condition, I would think the price is a little high. And if he's not aware of the engine size, I can't help wonder how it's been serviced if he's owned it for any length of time. If it's a decent runner, I probably wouldn't pay any more than the low 2s.

I'm guessing its a 4cyl.

I wouldnt pay more than 1500-2000 for a truck sitting in that condition. And if its a 4cyl, I'd probably just skip it all together.

Offer him 1500, if he doesn't like that offer walk away, but the 4 cyl tacomas can run forever though.

maybe he wants a pickup and would get rid of one of his other cars - or not who cares. Or maybe was hoping to get it for a grand, as mentioned above, and flip it for some cash.

Or maybe the op has always had a burning desire to make himself a customized mini truck and tour the import truck scene across the country

lol, none of the above. The 4runner is my wifes vehicle. Insurance wouldn't be much for liability, but then i would have to pay for yearly inspections and registration. All together that would be about $300 per year total but...... unless he calls me back i'm skipping it. It's just one of those things that i stumbled upon. Since we already have a tsx, the rl might get sold, but i just bought a set of oem wheels for it.

Is it 4wd? if not, it's worth about $1,500-$2,000 wholesale. Add a grand if it has 4wd.

I wouldn't bother. You've got cars to fill your needs, but if it's cheap enough ($1k or less), maybe you could flip it

It's been sitting for months, so he might take a particularly low offer.
