should i color match the hardtop?

hello everyone. ive been away, n missed every second of it. im still lurking but, stopped posting.

heres my dilema: as some of you know i picked up an S2000 bout a month ago. the previous owner removed and sold the softtop n purchased a hardtop. it is black, n the car is silverstone.

ive been thinking about getting it paited the same color as the car (my uncle works at a bodyshop and said i just have to pay for the paint. so money isnt an issue). everyone whose seen her says she looks sexy with a black top.

i do like it, maybe im just curious as to how itd look the same color.

also to be taken into cosideration, ill be buying some rims by summer (hopefully). in looking at some black RPF1s, or gunmetal rims (if i go with gunmetal, im not sure which wheels yet)

thanks in advance.

so...should i?

Looks AWESOME with the black HT. Keep it black.

You have a 2004, yet it has AP1 (2000-03) wheels. What's up with that?

haha, i knew someone would ask. i just didnt think itd be the first comment! lol. the previous owner had some MUGEN F10'S n did not want to give her up with them on her. oh well...

main reason why im getting some wheels.

i actually like the OEM better. not like i have 2800 bucks but,if i did, id rather put it towards a turbo setup. (after getting new wheels)

color matching silver is a bitch, but I think it would look better that way.

drop it and put the right wheels on it and I think the black top would work. although it does look just fine as is.

I think it looks great and excuse my ignorance but can you still take it off without having a huge hole where the soft top would have gone? Basically does it look retarded if you remove the hardtop?

Edit - black wheels would really tie it all together IMO

it does leave open space where the soft top goes but, i dont think it looks retarted. infact, nobody has noticed or mentioned anything.

Cool, you just have to pray you make it home before the rain with the top off then On the plus side you don't have to worry about the seat thieves, as much, with that on there

Just reading the post, I was thinking repaint it...then I saw the pic, and it doesn't look that bad. I'm 50/50 on it...it'll look good either way.

Actually, you still do have to worry about seat thieves. The OEM top comes off pretty easily, especially with two people. Some on S2KI have reported HT theft. One still requires a good alarm with shock detector to make thievery difficult.

Keep it black, the OEM hardtop doesn't look that great color matched, IMO.

PLUS, when you sell the car/hardtop, it's MUCH easier to sell if it's in black since it goes with any color.

Why would the previous owner sell the soft top, btw?? It doesn't save THAT much weigh

My car is the same way.... kinda. Its silver-ish with a black c-pillar and it looked weird with the chrome stockies until I put black/polished lip wheels on it. Now it looks sexy

I say keep it and get different wheels. You can get a set and get them powdercoated if they don't come in black, but make sure you keep or get a polished lip otherwise it'll look too plain.

I kinda like the black top, but it needs a set of black rims for sure.

Found this pic of a silver top. Looks good but nothing special.

I think it looks good as it is right now. However, driving an S2K with a hard top is half the fun for me, so when time and budget allows, I would go back to a soft top.

I like the black top. Get some nice black wheels (or black and silver wheels) and it will come together nicely.

Keep the black. It's a unique custom look. Bring to mind the NSX. Just add a nice set of wheels (in black?) with polished lips, and a drop, and you'll have a sweet looking ride.

That's one helluva decision to make. I'd personally keep the black top just to be unique since it doesn't look bad either way.

Quick Reply: should i color match the hardtop?
