Should I change my CTS-V wheels? Weekend poll just for fun...

So AZ, I come back to you with a weekend poll, just for fun.

I've had winter tires on my original set of stock CTS-V polished rims for a month now, and that's gotten me thinking of spring mods...I plan to tint, always a plus on a silver car.

I have a spare set of stock rims with 1000 mile old tires. I bought them from another V forum member. They are sitting in my basement awaiting the spring switchover. I love the look of the stock wheels. However, I am thinking about getting them black chromed. I like the look of black chrome or gunmetal on a silver car and I did this my silver Acura RL (click on the the link in my signature to see it).

Here's what the stock rims look like on my CTS-V:

Another option I have to to sell the stockies and buy gunmetal ADV 7.1s in 20" size. I'm attracted by the light weight (they are the one-piece forged wheels) and the concave center. The light weight would help when I go back to the dragstrip to play in the spring, and the concave center....just...looks...hot. The ADV 7.1 is on the right in the image below:

So what would you do? I'm not in a hurry to decide. There's a better than even chance that I will just keep the money in my pocket and not do any of these things.

I'd be tempted to do the 7.1s, although 20" sounds too large-- have you checked the Tire Rack site to see how the wheels look on the car?

10.1's are sporty w/o looking busy. You have to get them in brushed. It will look agressive and understated at the same time.

Your wheels are one of the few GM designs that I really like. I think having them painted or coated black chrome/gunmetal would look amazing with the silver paint. I personally wouldn't put Advans on a Caddy.

These aren't Advan wheels. They are Advance One wheels. They specialize in wheels for "high-end" applications.

http://www.adv1wheels.com/

But your point is well taken. I really like the stockies, something I usually can't say about stock wheels.

I think the 7.1s will be perfect. They almost look the same as the stockers so I think they will add a bit of understated distinction.

Bob, the stocks remind me of RonJon Legends. I think they look nice on the V (I'm salivating-by the way!) The Gunmetals are the same design with a different finish. I don't know-with a V, I'd stick with the classy look of the stocks.

Just be careful with ADV as they are related to the old 360 Forged. LOTS o drama. Why not HRE? I think HRE will ultimately stand the test of time as a company.

this.

There are people who simply hear that Jordan Swerdloff is merely associated with ADV1 wheels, and they'll swear off those wheels forever. Caveat emptor

same here.... I wouldn't trust Hennessey with leaving my car at his shop for a simple exhaust tuck. God knows when I'll see it again.

diggin the 7.1 for your car.

You got any information about the company that makes them? I tried going to their site (http://www.advanceonewheels.com/) but looks like they haven't finished the site development as nothing works on it.

Personally i say leave it the way it is unless you plan on lowering the car. Hate seeing aftermarket wheels at stock height.

I say powder coat in gunmetal, then a nice clear coat over the stock wheels..... Then use the extra money for more power

Or try this:

http://www.hrewheels.com/gallery/ go here, and select the "specialty car" category, and select the 890R series.

HRE is

I would powder coat one set of stocks black as it would look awesome on the silver car, plus you have the second set when you feel like going back to OEM.

I like the 10.1 better than the 7.1

If you get the wheels black chromed, you should do it to the mesh grille to match. I think that would look really good

Only because the wheel manufacturer sucks in this instance, I'd say keep the stockies. If you were planning on purchasing wheels from another legitimate company, I'd say go aftermarket!

they're all pretty cool... even the stock ones (I know that doesn't help), but I always say... if you got big brakes... show them off as much as possible, therefore I have a slight lean towards the 5.1's

Those 7.1's are nice, but look like more they belong on a BMW or Porsche, like the HRE monobloks that you see on so many of them.

My vote is lower it on the 10.1s, and black chrome your stockies as a winter set.

BUT you already have the spare set of stockies lying around, so take advantage of that. Black chrome one set, and pocket the cash.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but the 7.1s look similar to the stock wheels. Id paint the stockers, or look elsewhere.

when looking at wheels on a company website etc, make sure you are looking at a picture of the wheel in the specs you need to fit your car
As that concave look may only be possible with a 9+inch wide rim and a low offset, which may not fit your car (i don't know the specs of what cts-v's fit offhand)
This is a big issue for me, as companies always want to show the wheel with the most concave look,or the biggest lip, but that particular wheel may not fit your application
good luck with getting some wheels for that nice car

After looking at the pics several times, I think the factory wheels look best. Just the way they are.
