Pulley is on - the belt is on. Apparently the nut that you use to tension the belt was stripped, making that task even more exciting....Now I just have to wait for the ECU to come back before I can put the top half of the engine back together, then I have to take the interior apart to change the fuel pump. There's two ways to access the pump, behind the driver's seat under an access panel, but you have to cut the opening a little to get the pump out, or by dropping the fuel tank. That's a stupid task to do, so I chose to pull out the interior and do it that way. That's next. Then at some point I hope to change the crossgate cable for the shifter. I don't have to, but I want to, in hopes it may help the shifter feel, even a little (I have the cable already). I already changed the other shifter cable...

Finally tackled the dreaded fuel pump...It consisted of removing the interior to get to the rear bulkhead behind the driver's seat, where there is an access panel. Part of the bulkhead needed to be cut in order to get the fuel pump out. It's either this way, or dropping the tank, and that isn't exactly a walk in the park, either. In the process, I learned a few new curse words too!
Some pics:
Taking the interior back out again:
Getting to the access panel by in the rear bulkhead:
Fuel pump is OUT! Notice the tape around the edges....Aluminum can be sharp! (See my pointer finger in the next pic)
Here's the entire assembly:
...taken apart to get to the pump
My shameless selfie
Newly tuned ECU:
Putting it all back together:
I didn't want to put the interior back together until I put the ECU back in and the top half of the engine back together, which is what I was doing in the last pic. Connected the battery back, fingers crossed, there was a little hesitating of the engine on start up, probably from the pump having no fuel and taking a few cranks to get fuel in there, but she fired right up. I left it idling for a bit, and before shutting her down, revved it a few times. I could tell that the idling issue I was having (car stalling when coming off the clutch too fast) may have been solved, because when you blip the throttle, the revs don't dip immediately below 1k like it was before, it goes to about 1250 RPM for about a second, then dips to about 900 RPM, the approximate idle speed.
I didn't have the chance to drive it, because I didn't put the interior back together yet. I figured I would tackle something that's been driving me crazy all of last year, which is the pedals I installed. For some reason, I didn't have this problem with the Elise, but on the Exige, the gas pedal is much further down than the other pedals, making it next to impossible to heel and toe. The kit came with spacers to raise the clutch or brake pedal, but not the gas pedal. I had to use some creative thinking to make it work, but I did it. One other note about this, is the car is small as it is, but trying to maneuver my 5'10 200+lb body in the space of the footwell is a contortionists nightmare. It took me over an hour to do what I was doing, because it was extremely difficult to get my body and both arms/hands there to do this. Next time I'll pay my 5 year old nephew to help me with this LOL...
Hopefully I'll finish the rest of the car next week and take her for a drive. All I need to do at this point is change the cross gate cable for the shifter (not really necessary, but I bought it, so why not), and thoroughly clean the interior (when it's apart is the only way I really can do this), put it all back together, then just take it for a drive, then back in the shop to change the oil (it's been sitting all month), and I should be DONE! (I hope)

An Elise/Exige is my goal 'toy' in the future. With us likely upsizing our house this year, I'll have a 3 car garage to put a toy in.

We're in frugal mode from now until we get a deal done on a house. But a kart is still in the future plans

He hasn't been seen round these parts in nine months. Working too hard, I guess?
