I'll just come pick it up
I cannot speak from experience, but I would look to see if there is a "nation-wide" transporter. (i.e. Mayflower for house)
Check classic car forums These guys buy and sell cars all over the place.
My Dad bought his motorcycle from a dealership in NY. They charged him $800 to ship it to NC. It came in/on a semi. Seems like the dealership hired a freelancer.

You guys jump to too many conclusions. I'm talking about shipping a car to me, not the other way around. Regardless, this is not the point of this thread.

I shipped a car cross-country for $850 on an open transporter. They sent a flatbed to my parents place in LA where they picked up the car and drove it to a transport yard where it was loaded on a car transporter. Transporter was driven cross-country and arranged to meet me near by place in VA to pick up the car.
Costs have probably gone up a bit, but the first decision you need to make is if you want open or enclosed transport. Enclosed transport is usually about double the price, but ensures whatever car you are shipping is protected from the elements.
Took about 1.5 weeks from the time of pick up to the time of drop-off. Don't remember the name of the company, but they did a pretty good job. Car was dirty, but was in one piece and all the stuff I had loaded into it was there when it arrived.

I've used a company called SeaRail here in Canada a couple of times to ship cars via rail. Once from Vancouver, BC to Ottawa,ON and the second time from Ottawa, ON to Vancouver, BC.
If I recall correctly it cost me about $800 each time.
I realize you're probably looking for US only. Their website says they do shipping from Canada to the US. They might be able to refer you to one of their partners in the US??

My bad ...
I think there's probably a difference between putting it on a carrier and having it transported properly (especially if it's a NSX). You could probably pay someone to flatbed it to you but I have no idea what that kind of cost is going to be.
I don't think I'd put anything nice on a normal carrier unless you covered it with pull-off plastic like they do new cars.

If you go to the ebay motors page, there is a single form you can fill out to get quotes from 4 different shippers. DAS is the one I here about most often, and they are supposed to be pretty good.
Figure <$1000 coast to coast on an open transporter. There are tons of add ons that can jack the price up: closed carrier, pick up and delivery at a residence instead of a depot, damage insurance, etc., etc.

Try this site- Shipping "auction"
http://www.uship.com/
You put your request up, with origin and destination, and then different shippers bid on contract. I've used them before- you can get an awesome deal if you catch the right truck

The only transporter I would ever trust:

He has done a bunch of work for some friends. If you are looking for someone that you trully don't have to worry about-Gary is your guy.
