Shifting issues 1992 legend

Just bought a 1992 acura legend,
the guy selling it said it needed a "speed sensor"
and that was why it was shifting strange,
he said that essentially it didn't know when to shift....

The car does this,
takes it about 6000 rpms to shift from 1 to 2, doesn't really seem like 3 is there and when eventually it changes to 4. While driving over 60mph it keeps "slipping" I guess, back into a lower gear, the rpms drop, but only for a few seconds then it jumps back up.

I bought a new speed sensor, but that didn't fix the problem, the sensor I bought was the power steering speed sensor, its right next to the oil filter, anyway I've been reading on this site that other solenoids may be the cause,

also, the car shift fine when shifting manually, it still doesn't stay in gear as described above, but I can get it through the lower gears.

I really need this car to work, please someone help!!!

Did you check your tranny fluid levels?

Have you replaced your tranny fluid?

If the answer to the above are "yes".

You might need a new transmission.

Sounds like what my 2001 CL-S was doing before the transmisson went out and had to be replaced. Good luck.

I'm thinking it could be a 3th gear pressure switch since the car isn't going into 3rd. I wonder if the HDS computer could diagnose the issue; any check engine lights?

That transmission is a slow shifter. It's reliable as hell though.
