Screw practicality!!! Daddy wants a toy!!!
went to see my buddy last night and he took his C6 vette out of hibernation... its been 16 months since he bought this car and it only has just broken 3k miles... i never got to drive it and he let me get behind the wheel yesterday...
it has been about 3-4 yrs since i last drove a MT but it didn't take long until i got back into the groove... i was amazed at how easily the car drove... around town the steering wheel was light as a feather, and on the highway it seemed to stiffen up the faster i went...
i think i may have to go test drive the CTS-V... i know it has the bigger SC engine to pull the extra weight, but is it seriously as fast/comfortable as a base C6? where's bob?!?!?
it should be quiet in the office today, i think i'm going car shopping!!!

3k miles?!?! and it's at least 16 months old?! That thing is rotting basically. I can't tell anyone what to do with their things but if I bought a car in perfect running condition and it wasn't being garaged as a collector's car, I'd be driving it.
The CTS-V is a beast, I imagine its not as nimble as the C6 since it is a 4100 lb sedan after all, but that supercharged V8 can definitely move and it holds the Nurburgring sedan lap record for a reason. I'm willing to bet it's more comfortable than the Vette.... the MR shocks do an amazing job, so I've read.
The only thing impractical about the V is the price and MPG

... pretty much every car has its most significant period of depreciation within the first 3 years of ownership, no? This is increasingly noticeable with $50k+ cars, I'm not too surprised. But I share the same sentiment as you, you get a lot more car for your money if it's 2-3 years old and well taken care of rather than going to the dealership for a brand new car.
the c6 vettes are nice, my buddy has one with a few mods, full exhaust and some other stuff i can't remember
one of the nicest sounding exhaust notes, loud as fuck though
and they even get good highway mpg
are you going to try and find a manual cts-v?

and iirc the CTS-V actually has a smaller supercharger then the ZR1

cars are a very complex machine, and like to be driven occasionally (and even romped on some too), otherwise fluids go bad, and start getting corrosive, seals dry out and go bad...
I've also been thinking of something less practical (also looking a bit while at work today). I see listings for pretty low-mileage RX-8s in the $15K range and keep thinking that might be just the thing, thirsty, quirky engine or not. Then there are the 370Zs.
For something really insanely impractical, about a week ago some guy in a Chevette pulled up next to me, and the car looked to be in excellent shape. I think anyone willing to put the dedication in to keeping one of those going is a special kind of awesome.

As Michael said, def. give it a look.
Your friend is ruining a perfectly good car. That thing needs to be driven. If i owned one it would be driven year round. There would be snow tires on it. And no, im not joking. The C6 i got to drive for a week was an absolute amazing beast. I was able to get 30mpg on a couple hwy trips. As for the CTS-V, If i had to guess id have to say yes it is as fast and as comfortable.

Anywho...Corvettes are indeed great value for what you get. The current body design is starting to get a bit stale, IMO. Not to mention the much-hated interior, but then again, its a sports car not a luxury vehicle.
That's the problem with a fun "weekend" car....you'll want to make it your everyday car because driving anything else will be too boring and depressing(esp. after a tough workday!) I just swapped out the impractical GY F1 Supercar tires for Michelin Pilot Sport All-seasons and good to go...
Check out prices of used Vs. Many of them are going for near-MSRP still.
Bob's experience is one the reasons I went and test drove a CTS-V and chose it over a lot of other cars.
It is refined when you want it to be and will rip your face off when you stomp it. As a bonus, it is definitely a sleeper car -- everyone wonders why I bought a Cadillac...and then I have them ride shotgun.....

This bugs me also. My dads 06 Z06 only has 13000 miles on it. The car is 5.5 years old. But his DD is a 2007 and has 95,000 miles.

0-60 is 3.9 sec for the automatic V, and 4.3 sec for the base C6, for example.
I wouldn't turn down a base C6 for a fun car, though, and it's easily modded for much, MUCH more power.
we might have to bring Terry into this conversation... i have been looking at a few resto-mods... where these guys are buying the body of older vettes and there is a company that sells the frame pre-built with the newer LS engines and upgraded suspensions etc... so you get the old look with all the new gadgets...
hmmmm it would be sweet to find a 58 or maybe 69 and drop an LS7 maybe??? drool....

.. I was looking at cars on Autotrader too
