Man, I hate bean counters. Some idiot with a MBA must have made this “business” decision. I really hate these business folks who ruin the enthusiast of these fine companies.

I think it's a total crock. Honda has gone from making 30cc motors for bicycles to one of the world's major car companies by being an engine company that also makes car bodies-ie-based on performance. There are a lot of smart people at Honda, and I believe they will "dance with the gal what brung em".

There is an ‘02+ black NSX in my area that's been sitting on an Audi/VW dealer lot in the same spot for couple of months now, I pass by there everyday on my commute.

They may leave the NSX name behind but the next Acura supercar is suppose to come out in 2007. The HSC Concept.

On a side note ... Toyota has dropped the MR2 & Celica for next year. They are concentrating on sedans and SUVs. Looks like sports cars are dying out (in general).

With Honda's racing heratige I highly doubt they will drop all their sports cars.

I wouldnt really say they are dying out, but the sports car market is getting very competitive. I mean, the rx-8 came out, the g35 (skyline) came out; there are plans for the supra to be brought back as a lexus, and the gt-r to come out as an infiniti. Also, i heard that they might bring back the rx-7. Seems like all the cars in the 90's that were discontinued are all coming back. Even the twin turbo z might come back. Maybe acura doesnt think that they can keep up? I think they can. They just need to try harder.

I guess you have not watched the IRL or F1 this season. Pure domination in the IRL and only second to Ferrari in F1. Honda continues to be at or near the forefront with their racing programs and it will translate to better offerings in the the showroom.

There have been rumors that the s2000 was going to be discontinued since 2000 and it still lives on. I've even seen rumors that the Prelude may return. There is no way Honda is going to put their sports cars to rest.

I'm indifferent. The new NSX was cool, would have loved to see that come out. But I'm glad theres no more Type R. Enough with the stupid racing edition rice cars already.

HONDA won't stop making "performance" cars. All their models from their lowest priced cars to their highest including mini-vans are always has a bit of performance in their blood. They will never become a TOYOTA, in which their cars are more comfort oriented, boring looking and made for older people. Hell, Honda’s customer base is for the younger generation in which performance is a must.

And why do I have the feeling we have mentioned this before? Is this a repost?

Anyways, Honda is spending a truck load of money on the F1 program right now.

The Type R name, in my mind, was spoiled so bad by ricers that I only associate it with ricers. Dunno. For me I like A Spec and Type S.

If anything toyota will bring back the celica & MR2 type cars in their new cheaper brand. The RX-8 isn't that big of a success or at least not what Mazda had hoped for or what the rotary community hoped for (I used to own a 1993 CYM RX-7). The latest on the RX-7's return is that it got canned. The RX-8 was intended to be a MX-6 replacement but many took it as the second coming of the RX-7 including the dealers! I do think Mazda and Nissan are the only Japannesse companies that want to play in that market segment. The thing is once you add another car in that same segment all you are doing is sharing that segment more ways. I don't think the sports car market is dying, I just think it has scaled back from what it was. So many people want sports/luxury coupes, not sports cars. One reason car manufactures make sports cars is for branding purposes. I would say most manufactures have established their brand enough or with a different type of branding.

The Honda truck thing will be a reality. The funny thing is that the bed of the truck is so small I don't even think a dog could turn around in it!
