The Rx-8 Slow As Doggie Doo!!!!!!
i met this guy at the DragVa meet last night that had a dope ass rx-8(he is doing a photo shoot in 2 weeks for a magazine so keep a look out). i asked him what he ran at the track cuase some of the other guys were given him a hard time about it and he finally told me. he ran a 15.2 AND YES ITS A STICK. i busted out laughing at him sayin my car ran a 14.8 bone stock and its an auto. i had no idea that they were that slow. is anyone else amazed by this as i am????? i know some of that is driver error but still he said road and track or some other mag like that gave it really crappy 1/4 mile times also....i was blown away

They are slow in the 1/4 mile, because their power band is very high. 1/4 mile runs you need to get the car in that band which by the time it's there the 1/4 mile is over. There not very quick, but they will out handle us, & just about every stock car out there in the same price range. And they are faster around a race track.

to get the good 1/4 mile times you need to drop the cluch at a very high rpm (~6000 I believe)...its just not worth damaging the car that much to get a descent quarter mile time

Under-powered
There was a whole big thing where Mazda bought some of them back cause they rated the power incorrectly, read too much. Stock they're slow, but add some FI to them and they become quick little buggers.

^ provided it's a manual transmission. The auto version of the RX-8, for some funky ass reason, makes 6 more lb/ft of torque 500 rpm earlier, and 40 hp less. Since the manuals run mid 14s (R&T ran an MT: 14.5@96mph), the autos must have abysmal ETs.

That is my favorite part about them. This "amazing, revolutionary" engine that is slower than a civic with the gas mileage of an F 150 and burns oil like a 1972 ford
Sweet with that kind of advancement we should be getting 1 mile to the gallon and 0-60 in 50 seconds in the coming years.

does handle really well though

'Big Daddy Diggler'
my lil brother has one and put a spanking on a cls-6 with headers intake and axel backs. Off the line he got beat, but when they ran on the highway, he ate the cl-s till 130 where the cl was a few cars behind. The 8 is stock. I admit at it being slow off the line, but it is fast once up in the rpm range. Its a hot looking car and handles like its on rails. Also the car loves mods.
