Rust Issues on a newer car

Looking to buy an 08 TSX in the next couple weeks, and found a great deal on one in Chicago. Got ahold of the CarFax to find out it was titled in MN for 2.5 years, then brought to TX for about 6 months, where it was then bought and brought back to Chicago to sit on the lot it's currently at.

The car is Acura Certified with 22,xxx miles on it, but should rust issues or problems keep me from moving forward with the purchase?

Thanks!

if you are local, go check out the car and have a mechanic/auto body shop look over the car as you normally would. Personally I wouldn't find it an issue but I'd find out why the car was only owned for 6 months or how the current dealer got the car (IE Repo and then auctioned, etc).

The car is not local which really sucks, but it was titled in MN for 2.5 years where the owner moved to TX and had it retitled there. Then it was bought at a lease auction 6 months later and brought to Chicago.

I thought cars with high mileage are more susceptible to having rust, 22k seems pretty low to have rust issues. But, don't listen to me, we don't have snow where I am from.

The two cars Im considering are both 08's, one with 22K and one with 28K, but it wasnt the mileage that concerned me. It was bringing the possibly salt covered chassis to Middle TN where I dont know how the humidity will react to the salt.

Oh. Well, couldn't you pressure wash the underside and do a thoroughly cleaning of the outer body of the car? Plus, my post wasn't about mileage, rather it was about the amount of salt and rust that would be on those cars at such a low mileage. I'm sure someone with more experience will chime in. Good luck!

I don't see why rust would be an issue on such a low mileage, newer vehicle. Up until 6+ years ago we lived in NY (as did my folks before they retired) and none of our vehicles ever had rust on them. This includes vehicles that had 50k miles on them in NY (which includes plenty of snow and salt) which were then moved to Carolina with us before we sold them for other cars. Not a spec of rust on any of them...

BTW, I edited the title since this topic is more about rust then the TSX. However, when you do get the TSX.. be sure to visit our model forums!! https://acurazine.com/forums/

On a car that new you should have NO rust on the body unless the owner washes the car in the ocean.

Rust on the rotors is common. Don't let that bother you unless the edges of the rotors are so rusted that they crack or flake.

There may be some minor rust on the under-body. "Minor" is something people will vary on. I think that some rust of iron shields or bolts is normal. I think that if the rust flakes and breaks off then you should run.

I bought a 2008 TL with 72K miles on it and the underside had no rust to speak off and the car was driven in PA.

Yes and no. It depends on the owner. A car with low miles that was driven on salty roads and then not cleaned will likely have more rust than a car with high miles that was properly cared for.

How its taken care of has to do with rust more than mileage. I have over 450k on my TL and there is no rust.

Op i wouldnt worry about rust, especially on such a new car

Thanks for putting my mind at ease everyone. I'm making quite a trip to get this car so I wanted to make sure I wasn't wasting my time with the journey.

I have been stalking the TSX forums for a while now, and it defintely took me like 5 minutes to find this thread due to the name change haha.

But I appreciate everyone's input, it has definitely put my mind at ease.
