I think he's gettin a little paranoid...

the picture he showed me was 2 door...he wants it for offroading in case of an emergency (or armagedon lol)...He has an s2000 and a TL so this would be a fun car i guess Maybe he's just such a patriot he wants to support our dying car industry...

the one he looked at was automatic, i told him that was mistake number 1, manual is the only way to go in a rubi from what i know....

Extremely capable off-road vehicle...

My friend's dad is very into off-road driving and craps.. I think he said Rubicon is pretty fun to drive or something...

Is your dad really going to take it out to dirt or mountain?

if he gets it, i will definitely be off roading in it...

my dad has never driven offroad in his life... but i'm sure he'll be doing it if he buys the jeep.... he's a cleaning wax freak though so it might be tough

Buddy of mine who is a big Jeep fan actually says the auto is better to go off-roading in if you're a newbie since it makes modulating the gas/brakes much easier.

buy a low mileage used TJ and throw on a lift/tires and a winch. You'll have a more capable machine for less money. Install gun rack if true armageddon machine

I agree, get a tj, get all the goodies you want and have money to burn. Also rubbing up against branches and bottoming out on trees in a used tj will be much easier to take than doing it to a brand new rubicon. Jeeps are a blast, especially if it's not your DD.

My buddy has a TJ on 33's with a 3'' lift, and it's CRAP on the road, I wouldn't even bother driving it on the road unless I was on my way to a trail.

I'm not sure what you guys are referring to as TJ, but how about a Toyoto Fiji or whatever that thing is called. I remember talking to some people and reading great things about that thing.

You sure about that. The Rubicon is much more capable off roader considering it already has the lift/tires from the factory. Plus you get front and rear locking solid axles with electronic sway bar disconnects. The Rubicon is a factory rock crawler.

My parents have a rubicon here in colorado. There is a huge difference between this and our CJ5 and Scout II. The rubicon has gotten me through everything I have put it through. I will never forget going up very steep and extremely muddy rutted trails thinking I wasnt going to make it and the rubicon just pulled through and churned through it all. I think the axle locks will get you through even the stickiest situations. The tires we have on it aren't made for snow but again I have never really gotten stuck in the snow.

Its a 2005 and I'm pretty sure its never been in the shop. I think the biggest expense are the tires. We plan on keeping the rubicon for a very long time since its the most capable vehicle at the house.

you can say there's a huge difference, but there's a much bigger difference between and Jeep wrangler/rubicon and any other off road vehicle. I've spent many a time in blizzards and mountain bike trails (yes mountain bike) in a TJ and felt like nothing could be more capable. My point is, if you dont have a Jeep almost any Jeep will be amazing even if the Rubicon is much better. I'd just rather spend <$10k on a used Jeep that I could bash and not regret, but that's just me.

I've heard that from Range Rover snobs, too.

Fact is, if you know how to drive stick you're fine. I did my heaviest off-roading to date with my pathy, when the power steering snapped the night before...THAT was tough but I wouldnt have had it any other way.

awesome, that Jeep was put to use ASAP. My auto teacher has a 2-door and he loves that thing, then again he's a Mopar man. I've been wanting to build my own rig too but money is a factor.
