HAAAAAHAHAHAHA!!! In all the time I've owned manuals (5 years before I got my 1G TL) I have NEVER EVER mis-shifted! That's hilarious!!!

 

You guys see the tach needle? Looks like it went to about 10-10.5k. How come his engine didn't sound like it minded much? I guess it's the bulletproof Hondaness of it but jesus, he was >1k rpm over where the tach markings _end_ & >2k rpm over redline.

It's human though, we all fuck up... even if I personally haven't fucked something like that up, haha.

There is, but the rev limiter is a fuel cutoff. It only works when you use the gas to get the tach up there. Then it closes or slows down the fuel injectors so that you can't go over a certain RPM since there's no fuel getting there. When you downshift, the fuel injectors close anyway, and the wheels power the engine (engine breaking) as the engine's resistance slows the vehicle down. There's no way to get the rev limiter to stop that from happening because the injectors are already closed.

 

Dang, that's gotta suck.

 

For some reason, i think that vid is from someone here, in Alaska. I know of a nice anthracite RSX-S I used to admire before I had my CL-S, and one day the RSX disappeared, then I saw this video a few days afterward.

You missed what happened next. He stopped filming to pick up the pieces of his engine off the highway.

3-2 misshifts have put a lot of RSX engines to pasture.

 

You haven't met many RSX owners have you? I have seen 6 of them come in for blowing their motors on missed shifts. Usually it happens on a downshift (from 6th to the accidental 2nd rather than 4th) rather than an upshift.

 

Well, I know what would happen afterward. But problem with the video is it doesn't show that. It's just not a very exciting video.

Even that seems difficult to do, especially in the CL 6speed. To go to 2nd you have to push left as you bring the shift down. I haven't driven an RSX 6-speed so I do not know how much more different it is.

 

The RSX-S has a decently tight-gated box.

 

Haha, I agree w/ the best part. I didn't realize it was possible to pinpoint someone's english profficiency level by hearing two words.
