Yes sir...
I did the modifry one on the silver one too...
just don't see the need to go aftermarket on the S2000 since I like how the stock system looks. A slight bump in output would be good though...which is what I'm after.
Plus, I have the OEM ipod port in there.

Oh snap didn't know that iPod port was stock! That's why I thought you had an aftermarket radio to begin with

you should attach a weed wacker to the front lips of your cars and that grass will be maintained!

Yep!
Jeff...my buddy professionally paints and uses high grade 2K clear when he's done.
So I'd rather slide him a benjamin and help his side biz and end up with a pretty permanent solution.

Previous owner actually cleared the lights...that's how I learned how good it can look.
BUT, I don't think they sanded well enough so it's flaking off.

So...why I was crazy is that after being in touch with that guy with the E46 M3...I actually went to see it. Set the wheels in motion for selling the S2000. My logic was that since I can't pick up the kid in it and she can't ride in it
for another 10 years...I might as well get a fun car I can drive every day if I wanted. That would also give me the options if one car is ever under the knife. Finally, I'd be giving a German car a shot! What a car...so pretty, the color
was really amazing.

I went and saw it Friday night and purposely drove the S2000 down...top down, cruisin all highway with 60 degree temps...headlights cutting the night perfectly...I was like, FUHHHH is this the right move? Why does my fun car have to seat the family, we have 2 for that already? (Majofo mentioned that too). Well, I did a test drive...owner said he had limited insurance on the thing so didn't want me to drive more than a block down then made me turn around. Gave me some song and dance about getting a pre-purchase inspection at BMW because he didn't want any issues documented and put on the carfax. Went home that night feeling like the S2000 was a lot smoother but chalked it up to not enough seat time. All my friends, all of you included told me to pass...my gut told me to pass...but I woke up Saturday morning dreaming of Laguna Seca. All day Saturday I had a text ready to send him stating that I appreciated letting me see it but I was going to pass...but I didn't send it. Again...fucking Laguna Seca. So, I left it to Betty...we made plans to go see the car together Sunday morning. Went down, saw the car in the sun...mind you, it's been repainted but it actually looked fantastic. She looked it over, talked to the owner and gave me the green light. We shook on it with one caveat...we'd meet Tuesday at Acura and put it on a lift.

So yesterday, worked a half day and met up with him at Acura. Put it on the lift and it was odd to me, but he seemed nervous...he was searching on his phone for excuses for this that and the other thing. Well, my buddy Jon kinda had a look of WTF are you doing on his face...but I was keen on getting it. I ignored the dripping oil and transmission fluids...what did I expect from a 13 year old German sports car? A little rust here and there...of course, it's been up North...then we pointed out some rust spots and drips on the rear quarters that were painted over. Who spends $4500 on a paint job and let's that by? Well, at this point I developed a knot in my stomach...I don't like disappointing people and this guy seemed nice enough. Okay, off to the bank we go, fuck it...I said I wanted German and to get my hands dirty...just seemed like a list of things to address just got pretty big to get the car into what I consider good shape.

So FINALLY, now that cash is almost in his hand the guy lets me drive the car for real. Go down Pines Blvd...ripping it, redline, up down...try to drive it smooth. FUCK...annoying rattles everywhere, steering is fucking loose as fuck at speed so it feels like there's about an inch of travel in either direction before the car responds...there's an audible and very annoying clunk felt through the floor when you shift gears. He's like, oh this is German, it's just different, this is very smooth ...I start sweating...flashbacks of my wife's reaction to 75A motor mounts and 3+ racing clutches pop back into my head. I mean, IMPOSSIBLE to drive it without the clunk on EVERY gear..."oh you have to get used to the clutch/gas...oh that's the BMW rear diff clunk, totally normal"...right, but I've been driving stick for 20 years...it takes me a half mile to get comfy on almost any clutch and that clunk, if it's Normal...I think BMW would be out of business. So we pull into the bank and my mind is racing...fuck it, you're this far, you can't back out now...hit a pothole...FUCK slammmmm reminiscent of my black TL when it was maxed out...and supposedly they are brand new tokico/hr combo but FUCK that sounded like asshole. The tires are thin...and DWS which tells me they are probably from 3 owners back. This explains the 7 owners after 2 accidents...this explains why everyone gets tempted by the paint color and ends up dumping the car within a year.

I was visually distraught, I felt like screaming...I was like, sorry man...I need a minute. My wife will kill me if I come home with this the way it drives. One ride with that clunk and all the rattles and I know she'd refuse to ride in it anymore, in which case, why not keep my S2000 with only 3 owners, no rust and perfect smooth and fun to drive? Was I really gonna get this M3, convince myself and anyone who asks that it was a true race car and very raw feeling just to take a few thousand pictures and then have it look pretty sitting in the driveway. No I wasn't...sorry man, I can't do it, I'm very sorry for wasting your time and good luck with the sale. Got my plate from his trunk and told him I'd walk the mile back to the dealership. Called Jon from Acura on the way back and he said that if I was in love, that's fine but knowing me, my life and my wife...he was very happy I walked away because he felt like it was going to be a huge mistake. In retrospect, even if the guy had said that he'd take 10K for it instead of 15K at that moment, I STILL would have walked.

I was about to break all the rules. What a fucking moron I can be when I see a shiny object. B was proud I'm learning to see bs and do what's right for us.
  • Not heavily modded
  • Not from Salt/Snow
  • No high owner number
  • No repaints

It all fell into the place...the guy wasn't nice...he was a salesman. He didn't want me to drive the car because he knew it would end the sale. OH no PIP, Oh no joy rides, come with cash in hand, not willing to ship out of state (because he knew the shit storm that would cause on the other end), no PIP at BMW. He was trying to pawn off his piece of shit on me. Thank goodness I walked. I am curious now to drive a normal E46 to see how the car is supposed to drive.

So, instead of that, I decided to remove the milltek exhaust and sell it and use the money from that to pay for a soft top that I'll install myself and then do some home renovations to make it easier to pull out either car to take out.
Someone is happy about that...she literally was not letting me pull her out of the car, she was looking everything touching the steering wheel etc...that's my girl!

Bro you had me in suspense while reading. I was like no, if he bought that thing he would have texted me. I'm glad you didn't do it. The s2k is your fun, date night car. You have both caddies when you need to do family things. I'm glad you kept it.

Appreciate what you have homie, so many people would love an S2k. I see M3s every where, out here anyway. I've only seen 2-3 Vagons and a handful of either none molested s2ks or tastefully modded ones.

Thank you Kevin!
What an emotional rollercoaster, bro...
but I know you're right. I just had to tempt fate but in the end, it would have been a STUPID move.
I really think I would have come home and immediately listed it to sell anyway and then the burden of moving a shitty driving shitty record whore of a car would be on ME!

If you ever wrote a book, I'd read it.

I can totally relate to this: "What a fucking moron I can be when I see a shiny object."

You made the right decision!

I was like, fuchhhhhhkkkk that was a long post and probably reads like a novel.
But I figured it was worth getting the tongue lashing to share my story and almost stupidity.

And like I said.. you were paying for a fucking paint job mang!!!

e46 M3s are 10k all day here.

My buddy had one in college.. fucking drives tight AF.
Also, never buy a sports car from a douchnozzle.
You know he's a douchnozzle, you just like the see the better side of people.
He owns a fucking BMW M3 for C's sake.

and lastly.. the s2k is way better looking IMO. Sure you can always come back to it.
But it's a great driver, never going to give you shit, you already have batshit crazy in the garage.
What more do you want? And it's a vert!
Sure it's banana flavored, but I like it, and you like banana hammocks.. so...

when i first started reading, i was thinking i need to bitch slap you for even considering a 10+ yr old german car... then i saw the pictures and realized why you got wet...

i am glad that you didn't let your emotions get the best of you and was man enough to walk even though you were so far into the deal already... i know it is tough to look through the red flags when you fall in love with the car... you can always justify yourself through the red flags but in the end, those are the people who make huge mistakes and end up unhappy with a car they thought they wanted... your hypothesis about the 6 previous owners are probably spot on... i learned that as much as the 'dream' car might be staring you in the face, it isn't the only one on the planet... that's why it took me 5 months to find the GS, 3 months to find the MR2, 4 months to find the GX and 2 yrs to buy the Vagon... it freaking took us 3 yrs to find our house... call me picky and cheap, but i vote with my wallet and want what i pay for... goddamn i worked hard enough for the dollar so i would never settle for $.99... don't shortchange yourself...

im confused as to why the Acura mechanic didn't tell you from the get go to walk on the car? and again, B is a goddamn saint!

Lipstick on a pig...the CF, paint color and CSL rep was tempting to pay the extra.
Honestly Joe...I was about to do it but I realized that with how far you'd have shoved that cactus up my ass after...and then how you'd high five Betty and she'd get in there with a broom handle to make sure I felt the pricks all the way up near my esophagus...
this would be a bad idea. No joke, you would have had to get another cactus...that one wouldn't ever come back out.

and you're right...I DO love it...
and it's rust free...and gorgeous...and on wheels I sourced and powdered with custom stickers...

what the fuck is wrong with me???

I kept thinking...that S5 I drove was German...and it drove fucking beautifully. Too bad I'm not enough of a prick to own it!
I do look for the good in people, you know me well.

He did with his facial expressions, Andrew...but he said it wasn't HORRIBLE if I really loved the car...he also didn't get a chance to drive the car. If he had, I BET he would have said to walk for sure.
Thanks man...yeah, I'm too impulsive sometimes and make decisions with emotion, which is a mistake.

PS...you know this chain of events might actually work out in your favor, right?
I even told ole boy if he don't buy that lexus, I might as added incentive now

I kept thinking...that S5 I drove was German...and it drove fucking beautifully. Too bad I'm not enough of a prick to own it!
I do look for the good in people, you know me well.

Sure it's banana flavored, but I like it, and you like banana hammocks.. so...

i drove my buddy's Phoenix Yellow E46 M and it was like it was on rails... i loved the digital red line... to this day i still consider finding a Luguna Blue 'vert and replace the MR2, but then i have the same thought that mojo just pointed out... i have 2 other cars with baby seats (1 of which is already batshit crazy), my toy is my toy and can be our date car... and think of it this way, would you strap baby Z into the back of the M and then put your floor to the sheetmetal? probably not... but when you do want to act stupid, it will probably be you and maybe mrs rockafella...

again, your wife is a f'in saint!
