Removing window tint

Removing window tint
So I got my used CLS with 20% tint on it. It looks ok, but every car I had I put 15% on it. My tinting place will take off the old & put on the 15% for $225.
They claim the rear window will come off no problems. I never had this done before.
Any experiences with getting the rear window tint removed? Especially on the CLS since it has those dots on the top of the rear window.
I would also take out the rear shelf & have them tint over the 3rd brake light since I have a spoiler.
OR
Should I just leave it alone & live with it?

The dots are not the concern, but the defrost lines are. Any reputable tint shop should be able to remove it with no problem, though.
If you want to save some money and do it yourself, (or at least do the side windows) it's not too hard. Get a spray bottle with a dishwashing liquid/water mixture, a razor blade, and some steel wool. Start at a corner on the window with the blade and get it started peeling, then peel off as much of the film with your hands as you can. To get the glue off, use the mixture in the bottle, spray heavily and scrape it off with the blade or with the wool, up to you.

Should be no problem to get the tint off all but the back window. Use SSMTL01's info - it's spot on. You obviously want to be careful not to scrape off the defrost lines.
Good luck - and let us know of any new tips you might have!

$225 for them to remove and then retint is a major steal! Definitely let them do it for you, but you better hope they're good because you don't want your defrost lines to get out of whack or your navigation/radio lines messed up too.

also imho the difference between 20 and 15% isnt worth paying that much for If you're going to do it i'd at least go with 10. Or you could just get the windshield done to darken up the rest of it?

The place is where I get all my cars tinted(5 years worth) so I know they know what to do. I just never had tint taken off before. I know shops say "yeah not a problem" then you get a call saying "we have some bad news" 20% to 15% may not seem like a big difference, but to me it is. I noticed it right away. The glare I get with the 20% is more then the 15%. The 15% is alot darker to me as well. I'd never get the windshield done. Not a fan of that.

Removing tint fromt he rear window is tough even for a pro. There's ALWAYS a danger of cutting those defroster lines. Side windows are easy, just start at a corner and peel off the tint, then use a mixture of amonia and water, and make sure you get all the glue off...
For the rear you're going to need a hot day. Spray the rear window with the amonia/water solution and stick the garbage bags along the inside of the winshield and stick the car in the sun for a few hours. The heat and the amonia should dissolve most of the glue then just make sure you get all of the glue off before re-tinting.
