I took a interest in this the other day.
Not that I would buy it but I had a thought of getting a j32 in there and staying with a (custom) rwd drivetrain would be cool.
And specially it's a drop top.
I know,I know, I have a colorful imagination.

Shoofin has handled the modding part here, so I will only add:

Here's a video of a working S800. I WANT ONE! It sounds just like my S2000, its grandson.
Here's hoping Honda doesn't wait another 30 years to make another S series car!

Nice. And I thought that the Japanese had stole their ideas from the Italians. Form the looks of these lines and the dates on the Honda S500, it looks to be the other way around.

1963 Honda S500

1974+ Fiat 124 spider

I didn't know much about the old honda roadsters until Jay Leno's video of his S600
good video if you haven't seen it:

You can but they are very hard to find in the States. They only sold them in Japan and the ones who had them imported in the States are the OG Japanese Honda guys that had to make cold air intakes out of hollowed logs in the 1950's to make their a-tec's keep up with traffic.

As others have mentioned, it's a Bricklin. The Bricklin was made in Canada by Malcolm Bricklin, an automotive entrepreneur (many feel differently). If I recall correctly, around 2500 were made, starting with an AMC 360 V8, and then followed by a Ford 351. Those lovely gullwing doors weigh over a hundred pounds each (insert red text "lovely"). Eventually the public had enough of Mr. Bricklin's interpretation of a car, and he promptly skipped the country, owing the Canadian government about 23 million. Bricklin eventually redeemed himself by offering another stellar automotive gem to the American public. That lovely offering was the Yugo.
