Question for Porsche 911 owners

Hi all,
I have a friend that is in the market for a pre-owned 911. He is pretty firm on only spending $50K. I'm trying to help him in this process as much as possible, and what I am coming up with is that another $5-6K might be warranted. My question is, can a decent 911 be had for $50 or less?

Here is what I have so far, as to what he wants in this car.

Body: Coupe
Tranny: Automatic(...so the wife can drive it if need be)
Color: he likes grey/silver, but probably open to other non-flashy colors
He keeps saying that he wants the paint to be "flawless".
Year: 2007+

I've searched the interwebz and found some cars, but any owner advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
kr

Tell him he needs to be less picky about paint condition at his price point and that his wife should learn to drive a stick.

I guess my main question is, at the price point would it be worth it? Keep in mind that this will be a weekend car.

As long as it's a 4S then I personally would.

The 996 turbo is still .4 faster in 0-60

This.

As long as he buys from a reputable dealer, everything should be fine.

for a 997 you can get a Carrera or a bit higher mileage C2S for ~50k. Tell him to take his time, do his research and pick the right car. Getting a Tip is, eh ok, but if he is really going to enjoy the car he should get a stick. A 997 shift is like a hot knife through butter and just increases the driving enjoyment.

I had a starter issue on my 997 but it was a simple fix with a replaced ground connection to the starter, but it hasn't happened to everyone.

Seriously though, tell your friend to teach his wife how to drive stick.

Ditch the wife, get a stick, spend savings on losing wife on better 911.

I was in the same boat (check out this topic and this topic. I went with a 996 b/c they are more affordable and I couldn't justify having much more money sitting in the garage on a car that's going to get maybe 5-6k miles per year. I too was looking for an auto (as mentioned in the first topic), but Porsche sticks are soooo easy to drive. On the flip side, the autos are harder to sell... so you may get a better deal on a tip.

If I was him I'd look at a late model 996, update it a bit, and call it a day. I love the 996 I picked up and could definitely see myself ina 997 or 991 down the road... but for now, the 996 is damn fun!

Also have him do some research on rennlist/renntech and 6speedonline. Tons of info on these cars...
