Question to all de-badgers

I was reading some European Car magazine in my breakroom at work last week, and some guy wrote an editorial about how he thinks de-badging your car is the way to go. Saying something along the lines of "nobody cares if you're driving an '04 XR-Z14 Turbo" or something like that. As if the only reason people keep the factory badges on is so they can let everyone know what model their car is.

So do you guys de-badge your cars for that reason specifically, or is it just simply for looks? Do you think if a guy is driving around with the rear of his car untouched, that he wants everyone to know what kind of car he's driving? Like he's trying to showboat his car around town?

I personally like the badge on the back of my car, but don't get me wrong. I can't help but shake my head when I see an Integra with "TYPE R" plastered over every available space on the body.

I did it purely for looks.
I think it's stupid when people debadge everything except things like the "Type R" badge.

I did it for looks as well. That said I haven't de-badged a car in a very long time. Probably last one was my 2002 TL-S. Not really a big deal to me anymore I guess...

I'm with you, I think it's called growing up, as life becomes more hectic smoked corners, de-badging and other similar mods seem like a waste of time.

Gotta agree, I love the smoother lines of the car w/o them but as life gets busy, I barely even clean the car

I did it for looks as well. My car only has the front and rear "H" emblems. I would take off the one on the rear if there weren't holes underneath.

I always de-badge everything on the cars I drive. Nothing is left on except for the manufacturers badge. Even the trucks have the multiplication tables removed (4x4). I prefer the clean and elegant look, uncluttered with unnecessary adornment.

I don't buy my cars to show-off. I buy them for my own enjoyment. I could care less if someone else knows that I have a super high model luxo-sport car or not. Besides, if they can't tell what kind of car it is without the badge, they probably aren't into cars or don't know enough about them. And if that's the case, why should I care what they think anyway.

When we picked up the Avant, I requested they remove the badges in the delivery prep of the vehicle. If/when I get the integra repainted, I'll do the same to it. I just prefer the simpler, cleaner look. Also makes the rear look symmetric.

Well I'm just trying to say I keep my badges on so the back end doesn't look so bare, I suppose. I don't care enough to want people to take notice to what I'm driving. That's kind of the point I was trying to make here I know in the future I'll probably have some of it taken off, though.

Like the guy in that magazine never said anything about how it cleans up the look or anything like that, just pretty much implied that people who keep their badges on are doing it solely so people will take notice to what they're driving. That keeping your badges on makes you some attention-starved chode.

Just trying to see if anyone shares his opinion, I guess.

and lol mmmpie

Actually, my car came with one on the rear (emblem) and the words Legacy. Nothing else. I like it. (the GT model has GT and SpecB. in the US, the 3.0 has 3.0 badging)

In Europe, you can order your cars without badging. Can you do that in the US?

Only for clean looks. I don't like all that alpha numeric shit on the trunk. Like, what the hell is 3.2TL? My car only has front and rear A. That will be replaced with big H soon..

And I love the looks on some people's face when they can't figure out what car is this.

I think it's stupid to say that people keep badges on just to show off... most people don't even know you have the option of taking them off.

I took off everything except the manufacturer emblem, I think that one is a must because it's symmetrical and doesn't pollute the back (or front) of the car. I took off everything else because I like how clean and uncluttered the car looks, it actually looks like what the designer wanted it to look like. Both my debadged cars are only available in one configuration so it's not like I'm trying to pass off the car for something it's not. I could see how guys who buy a BMW 323, put some nice wheels on it and then debadge, could be accused of trying to pass it off for a 330. And if I had an S or M car, I'd definitely keep the badge.

wouldn't you be doing that to somewhat "showoff"

I think car badges are a little silly, I think all markings on products are a little silly from the eyes of a consumer. From the manufacturer it's just free advertising.

I took off my Mazdaspeed3 emblem because I just like the clean look of the rear.

I did it for my 3G TL as well.

There was too much shit on the back of the TL so it made sense to remove the badges. I want to get them off the Supra too but I don't think they used an adhesive.

Last thing I de-badged was my Integra.

The more clutter = harder to wash lolz.
More corners to work around the letters/numbers.

I will always de-badge numbers if I'm not lazy. I hate numbers on cars...I don't know why.

I like the splash of red from the Type-S badge I have, but once I take the car to get painted I might de-badge it all and leave the Acura logos only.

I relocated my Type-S badge to my grille.

That said, I like my cars debadged. Way easier to clean and looks "smoother" as well.

Mine came that way. 'Acura' and 'TL' are gone, just the 'A' and the 'A-spec' badge remain.

The worst thing is when people try to pretend it's something else. You drive an Acura, not a Honda. It's a Lexus, not a Toyota.

I did it purely for aesthetics too. I think it makes the rear look better/cleaner.

I don't however think most people keep badges to show off.

Think it depends on the car.

I'm kind of two sided on this one.

I like debadging a car to make it look cleaner, but at the same time, debadging a car seems like ripping a nametag off of a expensive article of clothing.

when i used to care, i debadge it as it looked cleaner and easier to get around when detailing the car. i hate having to tape up the emblems for polishing.

now i barely have time to send the car through the hand wash place. need more hours in the day.

Maybe I'm crazy, but when I see a car debadged, it makes me feel like they're not proud of their car.

But hey, maybe Phee is on to something!?!?!?!?

The guy that bought my 330 just debadged last weekend. I liked the 330 there because it wouldn't be confused for a 323/5/8. I think he took them off so it would.

Debadging usually makes a car look better. But some badges I would never remove such as the ///M badge. Just looks too cool.

who cares if somebody thinks you are driving 330/325/328/398/387 or whatever? come on.. we don't buy our cars just to show other people what we are capable of buying something right?

just enjoy your car.

I might get stoned for this...

I took mine off cause it looks cleaner. I don't think most people would keep the badge to make people think they have a certain trim, but it is ridiculous when people add fake badges of a higher trim to a lower trim (like S65 to a S500). In a way I also like taking mine off cause it makes it look like a V6, which confuses a lot of people. That is, until I rev it a little or pass them up
