Question about speeding bikes and cops..

whats the deal with cops giving chase to a bike thats speeding? I've seen quite a few instances where a bike has basically flew past a cop, and the cop didnt do anything. However, i have heard that State Troopers will give chase. Anybody know what the 'protocol' is? What about if theres a pack of bikes, and all of them are speeding? It just seems to me that chasing down a sportbike might seem fruitless, they get up and go so fast, maybe thats why some dont even bother. Anybody wanna shed some light on the subject?

I think its a judgement call. Out here, bikes fly up and down Palomar Mt. and, at least on Sundays, the cops will sit at the bottom and the top and if the helicoptor over head catches you crossing the double-yellow lines, your busted. Other then that, they dont seem to bother with speeding.

And if your in a pack and a cop is chasing, the slowest one or the guy that pulls over is the looser...

I got pulled over for lane splitting once. I probably could have gotten away from him doing some really stupid stuff but there' no out-running a radio or helicopter.

Lane splitting is ok in California as long as your not crossing double lines, thankfully. We do have the helmet law though, but I couldnt imagine riding without one anyway...
