Proximity alarms

So I'm considering maybe upgrading my car's alarm system (it's just factory right now) and I was wondering what you guys think about proximity alarms. Are they really worth it?

If not, do any of you have anything specific you could recommend that would be a good investment? Yeah my car's not THAT great but as of now I'd be shitless if the car was stolen

seems more like a gadget to me than actually worthwhile. seems like the more sensors you have on your car, the more likely you are to get false alarms, and just have it start to annoy you. I've never owned a proximity sensor, but i have had a interior motion detector, and that thing got annoying quickly.

all a good alarm should really need is a starter kill, a not too sensitive shock sensor, and some extra battery backed up sirens. If you are really paranoid, hide a switch to the fuel pump or ignition circuit or something along those lines.

My experience with proximity alarms is that they go off when it rains anything can set off a proximity alarm.

They are annoying. Do you live in a complete shit hole that would warrant such a thing? Otherwise skip it and save yourself and your neighbors some peace of mind.

fab up your own kill switch for the fuel pump and you'll be golden.

Do factory alarms usually come with that, or does that usually come from aftermarket stuff?

Just wondering since a guy in the 2nd gen CL forum had his car stolen and it just makes me worry about my own It was suggested that his car was taken to a chop shop. Like they just towed it off without starting it up and sounding off the alarm.

Basically, to add to why I made this thread, I'm just looking to boost my whole security setup with my car. Not specifically proximity alarms and the like, just trying to get ideas and suggestions. I'm pretty new to this kind of thing...
