Prepping a new part

Thought about putting this in wash and wax, but it's a bit more involved than the average detail.

Sister's door handle on her Civic broke, and none of us wanted to spend the dough on getting an OEM replacement ($100+). So I found a third party (quality unconfirmed) door handle and decided I could risk $20 on it.

If it's decent enough to install on the car, I have an issue - it's black. Her car is Magnesium Metallic. I'm wondering if it's cost-effective to get the materials (sanding, paint) to get it looking like it belongs, or just installing this one until the funds are there to get one in her color that's OEM.

Thoughts either way, and thoughts on what I would need to do it right. I'm a woodworker, so my arsenal of sandpaper isn't anywhere near the fine quality I'd need for paint.

From: where the weather suits my clothes
www.paintscratch.com for the paint
Scuff it up with a Scotchbrite pad
Clean it really well with denatured alcohol
Many, many light coats. It's a door handle so it will get abuse.

Just looked at the cost of the paint (base, clear and primer) and it's $50 for that alone. I'm going to check with a trusted shop here and see if they can do me a favor.

2004. I'll be stopping by the auto shop tomorrow, because if I have to order from paintscratch it's going to take two weeks. Making a Christmas gift really tight.

Wow, that's very generous. What would be a time frame?
