Premium Fuel: Which is better?
Premium Fuel: Which is better?
I am a new owner of a 2004 TSX in 6MT. My question is which gasoline is better?
Sunoco's Ultra94 gas, which is 94 octane, but up to 10% ethanol.
or
Shell's V-Power 91 gas, which is 91 octane, but contains no ethanol at all.

Shell V-Power FTW!!!!!! it's all fuel, you'll get better mileage with it, and it has more detergents in it so your engine will stay cleaner longer. do some reading www.toptiergas.com
also there is no need for GIANT LETTERS

I need to stop by an Exxon or BP station and see if they say the same thing....
yea depends on the state, I know like I think oregon for some reason uses E10 during the winter, I think
, although I think it might've gone all E10 by now
Hawaii has nothing but E10 as well. And it sucks.

Also Esso gas contains something called MMT which is supposedly not good for emissions systems.

I heard somewhere that Esso contains a lot of sulfur.
it's like this:
I found this out the hard way. We used to have a TON of Shell stations around here. believe it or not , certain cars like certain brands.(just like you guys with beer, yeah i know if it's free you don't give a care) anyhow I used to run almost exclusive Shell in Accord and Oddy. not only cause it was close but just it felt like it ran better PLUS i got better mileage(about 3-4 mpg). long story short. the guy that owned the Shell gas station filed chapter 11. had to sell all his shell stations to douche bag Marathon. which HONDAS FREAKING HATE. (FYI: Honda runs marathon gas out of factory. the only reason why is it's an american company and Honda on this American kick which is cool. but Shell is good fuel).
side rant: WTF is up with Ohio have almost pure Marathons. can't go a damn in town and everyone a damn Marathon.
now what i run is Clark mostly if i have to i'll run i'll run the Mother fucking Marathon.
can you tell i hate marathon fuel.

^wow aloha is actually on there
, they always say they are in their commercials, but never bothered checking.
I generally only use chevron as they are the closet station to my house and my work. Plus my thermo professor said he uses chevron
, and he probably knows every single energy process in an otto cycle engine better than anyone else I know, not to mention he said he helped come up w/ the whole R+M/2 or whatever octane rating system.

@ the giant letters comment.V-Power definitely pwns.
Then again I've never tried Sunocos...I didn't know they sold 94 octane.

Interesting.
I don't guess anybody can really tell a difference between 93 and 94 as far as performance goes???
In Toronto, and most of Ontario, 91 octane is the next highest you can find other than Sunoco's Ultra 94. But Shell's V-Power with zero ethanol is available all over the province.
Gas is gas get whatever is cheapest. Ethanol is required in ALL gas from ALL stations by federal law.
Some have complied faster then others. The gov has set timetable for it.

I go to a gas station over the NC/SC border called Gate. Generally much cheaper then the name brands and I do not notice any difference in performance or MPG over any of the name brands...
with many of the respondents. I get either Shell V-power or Hess 93.....of course this is mainly to them being on opposing corners and both running $4.11, which is about .15 cheaper than most around here. (I just filled up the AV6 las night as a matter of fact.)
Anyone have Freestate in their area? The on near me has gas for 4.09/g for premium...The Shell right next to it is 4.35
I'm guessing places like freestate charge so much less because they sell in volume (its ALWAYS packed) and they only accept cash (less overhead) Still, I wonder if the quality is the same...i'm sure it comes from the same place right

I usually get the cheapest premium as well- usually from Costco- but stop to fill up at neighborhood Chevrons occasionally. OK, I'm cheap too...
Seems like now that Prem is $4.45 there is less difference station to station. No longer worth shopping around, as the delta from high to low (as a pct of total) is much smaller.
PS - All oregon gas = E10
