Powdercoating: What would you do?

Sooo in preparation of my incoming toy that I hope to pick up on Sunday, I want to make arrangements to powder coat the wheels. What color should I go with? I was planning on doing them black...But do I go gloss black or flat black? The local shop can pick up the wheels Monday and have them back on Tuesday...

What do you think?

Pink? :ghey:

Seriously though I would go gloss black. Flat black wheels will look like they are uber dirty polished ones

On flat black just lookin dirty. Not to mention it would look really weird if you ever felt like shining the tires.

Any other options besides black and black?

Not many options, but I really don't want to go any color other than black..

This is what they show on their web site:

Gloss Black

Flat Black

Gloss White

Mirror Red

Dark Red

Chevy Orange

Mirror Blue

Wheel Silver

Gold

Grey Primer

Gloss Clear

Metallic Silver

Black Chrome?

I'm actually thinking of PC-ing my stock rims too... can't decide which way to go... How much does it cost usually? Can't seem to find a good place to do this in LA area..

Shoofin, post some pictures!

I think somewhere around 75 to 100 per wheel is normal. And if I'm not mistaken any curbing or imperfections etc gets taken care of.

Personally, I like the Wheel Silver. It has a mechanical, yet understated look to it.

When I had my wheels p/c'd I initially wanted to do flat black but the p/c guy told me Matte Black looks much better and doesn't have that dirty look to it. Plus, he said flat black can leave fingerprint markings and such, he was right. So I say go for Matte black

Maybe its just me, but all those matte/flat black rims look like just regular rims with excessive brake dust on them.

u know flat black and matte black are almost identical right? none of them is shiny so they are going to look dirty in 2 days.

Really? Wow I didn't know that.

Actually the matte has a little bit more of a sheen to it than flat, plus the flat tends to have a more "dirtier" look. I never had problems with my wheels getting dirty quickly, especially when compared to silver or white finishes. If you're worried about your wheels getting dirty, just use better pads or learn how to keep your car clean.

flat ---> matte ---> satin ---> semi-gloss ---> gloss

I would say either gloss block, or a gunmetal grey.

I just had my wheel's powder coated "Victory Grey III"

My vote goes for a dark silver/gun metal/titanium color

This might give you more ideas:

What about wrinkle black?

My friend has wrinkle grey HRE wheels. Black ones would look awesome!

Congrats in advance on the Lotus! If anything, those pics just confirm my opinion that gloss black would look the best.

But from your two pics, I think the top one looks best.

black on black is just so played out imo...just bores me to see it anymore.

BUT....I would consider black chrome.

the problem with black colored wheels (in any finish... maybe not gloss), is that sometimes from a distance they look like spare tire wheels. There's a black M5 around here, the guy has some kind of aftermarket wheels in black (all black, no chrome lips or anything). I think they're matte. And just about every time I see his car go by, for a few seconds, I think he's got 2 spare tires on (because I usually see it from the side). And for a few seconds, I always think to myself... "What are the chances of him getting two flat tires at once?? Get them fixed already" Then, it'll hit me... "Oh, wait... those aren't spare tires..."

Another vote for black chrome. Not too many cars on the road with this color on the wheels and it looks awesome.

I deal with a TON of PC stuff for work, both custom and factory. I really like the Matte finish on wheels over glossy, espec on black wheels.
