Lightbulb Possible Cheaper, Alternative Fuel for Acuras?

Guys!

I've been doing research about alternative fuels out on the market today.. I'm sure at least one of you heard of the fuel E85 ... It's composed of 85% Ethanol and 15% gasoline .... I was wondering, although there are MANY cars out there that we drive already that are fuel flexible, which we never even knew about : i.e. DaimlerChrysler, Ford, GM cars, as well as a few Nissans models, are our Acuras Fuel Flexible as well?... What I mean by that question is that will our cars be able to run on E85 as an alternative to regular gas?

FYI: Compared to the current $2.89 for regular 87 octane, E85 is only $2.54!!! It's been priced to be competitive to other octanes out there by the American Coalition for Ethanol.

The problem is that previous models don't have this "indication" labeled anywhere.. there are numerous reports out there that people did not know they were able to use E85 nor saw any labels on their car saying so until they called the manufacturer and then tried it out themselves. I called up Toyota and stayed with them for 35 mins on the phone.. apprantly although my '95 Avalon is stated to only use Premium, it's able to operate on E85 as well. For this, even Acura models like the 1.8 EL (Canadian) and SL are questionable.

It probably wasn't me then, I'm the only one in all of Warwick that has a modded out TL with New York plates on it. I actually don't have an OEM kit yet, I'll be getting one soon. And yes, that's at Oakland Beach! Where are you located? I'm right near Warwick Ave. So if you do spot a '99/Red/Clear tails/heather mist/NY plates, you know it's me. Usually, i'm the one speeding around cutting people off trying to get where I have to go. Dude.. we should meet up sometime.. it'd be cool.

1) E85 compatible vehicles have upgraded materials in their fuel system as I've been told that ethanol is corrosive in the long term to certain parts. Thus, E85 compatible vehicles have different types of materials in their fuel system to prevent corrosion.

2) You will obtain 20-30% reduction in fuel efficiency when running E85 as I believe it has a decreased net energy output compared to gasoline.

According to the searches I did for stations, None are anywhere near me, & most of the US stations are "no public access".

So even if the car ran on it, you would waste more $$ finding it.

No our car isnt listed, 2.54 is very expensive for that. Its 1.99 here. i wouldnt use it either. I hate using any fuel with 10% in it. I notice a reduction in mileage when using the stuff with 10% in it.

Vehicle listing is below. Unfortunately, if your vehicle is not listed, your vehicle is NOT E85 compatible.

* Daimler Chrysler
* Ford
* General Motors
* Isuzu
* Mazda
* Mercedes
* Mercury
* Nissan

* Adobe .pdf file of E85 compatible vehicles
* Identifying FFVs by Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
o How to Read a Vehicle Identification Number

o Refueling Locations
o Glossary

Ugh, I'd vote Democrat just to get rid of these farmin' corn-pushers.
No subsidies for ethanol producers!

Can't afford premo fuel, don't buy an Acura.

I'm not a oil man however I'm a corn farmer but I'm gonna be honest with you. Ethanol has a MAJOR downfall. it doesn't have the BTUs gas has when explosion occurs. in comparisions I read. most cars get 20-30% less full mileage. so If you get lets say 25 miles per gallon on the highway.you'll only get 17.5 to 20 miles a gallon driving the same style and same roads and same everything.
so it looks cheaper but when you gotta put more in it's not worth it.
