It is slated for '09. Maybe it will get the same LS9 as the ZR-1 Vette and the CTS-V gets in '09. Yeah, that would be sweat! 6.2L Supercharged FTW!
GM wouldn't put the $65-70k CTSV's motor in the $35k G8. On paper, it HAS TO make more crank power to justify the extra dough. The LS3 in the GXP model will surely have a ton of mods ready to go when the car hits showrooms. The GT's motor already has an aftermarket in Australia. A twin-turbo (I believe) from APS!

There were only auto trans models, and the EPA city mpg rating was 15 or 16!

On the plus side, the G8 I looked at had a sticker of about $32K.

For the first time I actually stopped at a Pontiac dealer. The salesman was a really nice guy to. Not pushy and ACTUALLY FEW THE FACTS. The G8 is a nice looking car and its big. I had the front seat all the way back and there was still plenty of room in the back. EPA was 15 and 24.
I am pretty sure if you are not gunning it you can manage to get 20mpg.
Overall for 34k it was a really nice car. The pontiac name is a turn off but the up side is its pretty much a Holden Commodore http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holden_Commodore

I stopped by a Pontiac dealership today to check out the G8 GT after I saw a pretty good review on it on Edmunds. They only had 2 V6s and they were both marked up $5K due to "local demand"

FWIW, there were V8s down in West Los Angeles, but they were also auto transmission versions.

The Pontiac G8s are now being advertised for $4K off the MSRP by the local Pontiac dealer. That makes the GT a $24K-28K car. This is uncomfortably similar to the pricing of the GTO before sales stopped.

For everyone complaining about gas mileage, i believe the G8 is basing MPG with new standards in place. You will see MPG go down for other cars in the future using the new standard as well.

You can get them with all-season tires (although I can't imagine why you would).

I've been reading that the tuned G8s are getting pretty decent gas mileage. Can't wait till Fall (GXP ftw)

APS builds 557 hp twin-turbo setup for Pontiac G8 GT
sorry if this is a repost

APS is in the business of making power and that's exactly what they've done for the new Pontiac G8 GT and its Aussie-spec sibling, the Holden Commodore HSV. The tuner's Stealth Intercooled turbocharger setup uses two water-cooled turbos mounted deep into the engine bay, just ahead of the transmission, to ensure underhood temps are kept in check – road debris be damned. According to APS, the system is a straightforward, bolt-in affair, utilizing a right-sized, aluminum, air-to-air intercooler, seven pounds of boost and a pair of TIAL 38mm external wastegates to bleed off exhaust gases and optimize throttle response. While APS hasn't installed the system on a Pontiac G8 GT yet, they've strapped its own blown HSV (with a three-inch cat-back exhaust) onto the rollers of a Dyno Dynamics dyno and produced 557 hp and 583 lb.-ft. of torque while running 93-octane. Pricing hasn't been announced yet, but considering how impressed we were with the standard G8 GT, this setup has the potential to redefine the bang-for-the-buck quotient in the segment.

Pontiac G8 GT doesn't provide enough power...
So these guys threw Twin Turbos in that bitch!

I've ridden in a 600whp TT GTO before. lit up the tires no problem in 3rd gear at 50 mph.

Oh. My. Goodness.
If only the interior were classier. Even so, the price is just right for the car, and even with that turbo system the price is so much less than the upcoming CTS-V for almost as much power.
