Pontiac G6
Pontiac G6
So I have a G6 as a rental whoo. It's a 4 door. Probably has the 4 cylinder in it...it sounds like a 4.
The car is surprisingly peppy and gets me going faster than you would expect. I found myself going 12 over this morning and actually had to focus on the speed limit. However, overall the car is kinda loud, not sure if this was intentional or not. I think its most sports sedan than luxury sedan so probably more intentional than not. Pontiac is supposed to be the "sporty" brand if I recall for GM.
The seat took awhile to get adjusted to something that I like. However I seem to struggle getting in and out of the car, which is odd considering i'm 5'6", 155 lbs (thin). It feels like the car is built for bigger people. I have to lean out of the car to grab the handle to shut door to shut if I swing it open too wide. Also since I have the chair so far up, I don't have a comfy place to put my right arm. (I steer with left.)
The guages are pretty nice, but the controls for the radio and climate are hideous. It's like what were you thinking. I can understand the massive amounts of plastic, but its like panels of plastic and tiny little dials. Why didn't they just make the dials on the radio bigger so it looks less like a plastic wall.
The only other gripe I have is that I have to turn on the windshield wipers everytime I turn the car on thanks to clever placement of the ignition.
However with that said the car drives and handles well. Sounds kind of neat if you're into engine noises. The base model is a bit plasticy but maybe the higher trims have better stuff. And if you're tall you'll probably be pretty comfy, but if you're short like me, eh... doesn't seem to work well.

My friend had a grand am (which is what the G6 replaced) and it was a huge peice of crap. It broke down all the time and wasnt relaible at all. The way she finnally got rid of it was when her brakes decided they didnt want to work anymore.
i actually just had a friend come over yesterday with a '04 grand am and the entire window had fallen into the door panel. he was just driving down the road, and "THUD!"...no more window there lol. i guess i should mention that it's the third time happening to his car, twice on the drivers side and last night on the passenger. he's replaced head gaskets twice, his headlights sometimes fall out of the bumper, his battery/alternator die randomly, the AC clicks when it's on, the dome light housing is broken so it just hangs from the ceiling and his doors and dashboard are starting to peel...after just 3 years!!! my TL is 10 years old and i've never had any of those problems. Grand ams, well pontiac, well actually GM, in general, suck at making a reliable and non-cheap car.
maybe the G6 is different...but i doubt it.

I was initially impressed by a G6 that my cousin had leased. It wasn't in the same league as the Accord, but it felt sportier than the Camry and had some pep to it. It was a V6 GT. However, when I drove the car 20k miles later it seemed that it had aged very poorly, with squeaks, rattles, and what not coming from everywhere, and the interior plastic had taken a beating. My cousin takes care of his cars, so I'm sure it was just the poor quality of the vehicle. Regardless, I wouldn't buy one.
