3.5 years left on my IS, 10K note, put cahs down and got a good trade in value.
overall at the time i was saving money because my car note plus gas was less then just gas per month that i was paying out. year later the savings are obviously larger, however i don't like having a car note...
i do want to get a bike towards then end of the summer because well thats the only time i could get into classes to get my license.
i do want to pay off the car but also get the bike.....but i'm wokring my ass off right now full time because i don't have class to worry about.

The good:
Paid off the 02 TL-S 2 years ago...
Right about the time when I met my current GF (soon to be Fiance)
The bad:
However, I have payments due on my Law School loans in 6 months....
My GF also has payments due on her Law School loans in 6 months as well
Ridiculous ass price for Graduate Education FTL.

Same here..... Its close to new car time, but I will not make payments. Strictly cash only. By not having payments, I can put a lot of money away for retirement. The last car I financed was my 98 Volvo (purchased in 99). Owned for 5 years, paid $250/month for 4 years. Boy was it nice to not have that payment.
I say, it's better to have a nicely used car that is paid off than a financed new one.
Now, if you can get a sweet financial deal, like 0% or something stupid low like .9%, then do that and let your money earn 3 -5% in a bond fund during that time....Financing is good in this situation.

I am leasing the TL and voted in the poll a couple of days ago. I am cheap and on a budget (I'm married with children.... ), so I'm writing off a good portion of the lease and usage due to business use. No other car payments either.
However, the lease is up in a few months and I'm trying to decide whether to lease a different car (TL-S, 335i or whatever else) or keep the TL (great car, no problems at all besides a recent self-inflicted parking lot scrape) since the buyout amount is much lower than market value.

All 4 of my cars were bought in full on the spot:
1) Lancer OZ: Dad paid in full
2) CL Type-S: $8,500 from the Mitsu, $8,000 from me, $3,500 from my dad
3) Prelude: $12,000 from the Acura
4) G35c: $7,500 from the Prelude, rest from my investments

Car payments don't bother me that much at this point...I like a decent car and don't mind getting what I pay for. Throwing down huge cash-money on a new car just makes me queasy for some reason. (Not that I could do that even if wanted to, but anyway.)
Student loans and credit card debt on the other hand... The student loans will be gone by the end of 08 if I have to eat macaroni and cheese till Christmas.

I have no car payments right now. I just got done paying off my son's RSX, my daughter has her own car payment, my wife's TSX is at the end of the lease and is being returned, the Miata is paid off, the CL is paid off, the 1957 Chevy Bel Air is paid off -- no more payments for the first time in 18 years! Oh what a feelin' During that time there were days when I was making payments on five cars at the same time. The insurance is much better now, too since I got rid of so many of my cars and I'm down to only three.
