Pissed Buyer

I occasionally hawk ads for cheap buys and of late, I have been seeing this ad popping up every few days on Craigs List Minneapolis. This buyer must have had sour grapes when buying because he/she has been posting this ad for the past 3-4 months! Here it is:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hn...185686786.html

I would like to thank you, so much Rob Blaine, 3315 17th Ave, 55420. 612 584 8282

I talked to the people you purchased this car from the week before you sold it to me. They told me that it had some kind of transmission issue, needs struts, the check engine light was on and that the buttons on the gauge cluster (left side) worked when they sold you the car for $900 and disclosed this all to you fully. It had only two newer tires.

Now to let you know how appreciated that I am to you. YOU depleted my entire saving on this car that you stated was in EXCELLENT CONDITION, YOU knowingly messed with the check-engine light to make your profit on me, YOU messed up my ENTIRE CHRISTMAS as I do not have a reliable vehicle now and can not afford another one either.

YOU indicated that you had owned this vehicle for a long time and had done some of the maintenance yourself, that there was NO issues with the vehicle, period, just had high miles of 209k and that you needed a truck instead of the car. I have also recently noticed you also removed a fuse from the fuse-block under the hood too.

I really hope KARMA comes down on you hard as YOU deserve this. YOU are a SHYSTER with absolutely no heart, someone that can't be trusted period. May you only go to Hell.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

His description of said vehicle:

2000 BUICK PARK AVE EXCELLENT CONDITION - $1995 (S MPLS)

very nice, loaded, heated leather, service records, new tires, needs nothing, 612 584 8282 no text

his postingID #: 2119863848
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

You would think that with this detailed description of the problems, the buyer would have known better than to buy the car, especially with those miles. Did he/she not know how to check tires? I sympathize a little because people should be a little more honest when dealing with large amounts of money but these issues seem relatively easy to observe at first glance. Obviously in this case, with the repeat posting, this person is still simmering.

My question-Has anyone ever bought a car from an unscrupulous seller? Or has anyone been that unscrupulous seller? How did you deal with it?

Having scoured CL lately I cannot overstate the number of morons there are out there.

I was going to post a thread on this but hell, why not just do it here ...

If a person is selling a car, let's just call it Car A in order to remove bias.

The private party value of Car A with 100k miles is $12,000. The seller is asking full PP value for it.

Am I nuts for expecting them to have done all the routine maintenance that's required for that car at 100k miles if they're going to ask full PP value for their car?

It seems that 95% of the cars for sale by owner on Craigslist have not had the most recent service done on the car for the mileage required.

If the car has 15k miles and is due for an oil change, that's fine. If the car has 100k miles and is due for a timing belt, water pump, coolant overhaul, shock/strut replacement and new tires and hasn't had any of them, don't I have a responsibility to myself to offer a price that's reflective of the car needing all that?

This idea that just because Car A might be desirable negates the fact that $3k of maintenance needs to be done on the car after I paid full price for it to begin with ... Isn't that crazy?

I just frustrates me to have to deal with completely clueless people. The dealers are no better of course but at least they have to have the car pass a safety inspection before putting it on the lot.

The buyer was a moron. It's his fault for trusting the seller.

The sellers probably done this before. Look for junk cars, offer low cash, clean them up a bit and sell them for large profit by lying about the actual condition. The buyer's probably really pissed because he found out the actual selling price was $900 and it sold a week prior to him buying. The buyer did by "as is" and then found out not everything was disclosed about what's actually wrong with the car. If the ad states everything correctly and the buyer didn't check the car over, the buyer's fault.

My first set of rims a few years ago I purchased off cgl and was under the impression that the tires that came with were relatively new as well. I couldn't of been more wrong, when I bought them I was so anxious to load them into my car and not even inspect them. It bit me in the ass. I didnt have much money at the time and went to put 2 new tires on a week later. One of the rims ended up being bent, I replaced the 2 new tires and became the unscrupulous seller, however my asking price reflected the cost of a bent rim, even though I didn't verbally disclose it. (I was going to school in a week)

It's not crazy, it's cars. You pay a couple hundred for a pre-purchase inspection if it's like you say, a $12,000 car with 100,000 miles on it. Then you've got some bargaining chips to get a better price if it needs this or that, but I would never assume a used car needed nothing.

Of course not, and that's not really my point. It's more that oblivious people are trying to sell cars they can't bother to maintain properly.

I would definitely have a PPI done but I'm not interested in pissing away money on a car that hasn't been maintained.

If I were selling that car, I would have mentioned what's been replaced, what has yet to be done (if anything), and so on ...

Instead it's, "2004 Car A with 100,000 miles. Drives good (ugh), never in an accident. $12,000. Text me at blah blah blah" And maybe two pictures by Mr. Blurrycam.

And those are the good ads. The others are rambling paragraphs that look like a tweet and no picture.

SHOCKING

I know a couple riders that have bought used motorcycles off CL and both got good deals and the sellers were honest.

At the same time I also known people who got ripped off at used car dealers, auctions, ...

But with CL, you gotta be really careful.

Lol, it looks like the person updated their ad! This person would make more money parting out the car rather than fixing every thing wrong with it.

Heads-Up to everyone...... Be VERY careful out there on your purchases as I am finding out by some of the responses that I have received from this add. There are tons of people out there just like him.....

I purchased this car from him 12-19-2010.

I would like to thank you, so much Rob Blaine, 3315 17th Ave, 55420. 612 584 8282

{ I know that I shouldn't have trusted him as much as I did. But, he seemed like a very honest person, was in his 50's, so I assumed he had morals.}

I talked to the people you purchased this car from the week before you sold it to me. They told me that it had some kind of transmission issue, needs struts, shocks, breaks all the way around, all 4 rotors, three bent rims, the check engine light was on and that the buttons on the gauge cluster (left side) worked when they sold you the car for $900 and disclosed this all to you fully. It had only two newer tires.

Now to let you know how appreciated that I am to you. As much as I believe in caveat emptor, there really does need to be a similar statue that deals with car sales the way that property sales work.

For instance, on a property sale if you knowingly don't disclose something and it's proven later you knew about it, you're held liable up to and including having to repurchase the property back. I don't see why we shouldn't have something similar for vehicles.

If someone purposely did something to hide faults, then something should happen. Like removing the bulbs from teh dummy lights so you couldn't see if there was an issue.

my wife's grandfather had a mercury grand marquis that always had the check engine light on, you know what he did to take care of it? He used electrical tape to cover the light. He didn't sell it, he just didn't want to fix an emmission issue.

The old bugger never had to fix it, but after he died i had to.
