Pics of my dads 545i

My dad picked up his 545i that he ordered a while back. The car has a many of the options, with the exception of Navi and the Sport package. I would have bought the sport package, but then again my dad is 58 years old and the car handles well enough as is. I really like the two tone interior.

I took it for a quick drive and was impressed with how well the brakes felt. It really makes my Mustang's brakes feel like shit. The car is pretty quick, but felt slow compared to my GT. Handling wise, the car feels very solid. I didn't know if I would like the car, but in person it looks real sharp.

I'll bring it up to a meet sometime over the summer. My brother has an E36 M3 as well. I might be looking at the turbo 3 (335ci?) series coupe in the future. BMWs are expensive, but I love the sensation you get when driving one.

...just gotta admire the motor pool at Maximized's house :

05 Stang GT
05 545i
Lexus RX

Not to mention running the American, European & Japanese gamut when it comes to cars.

I'm not the biggest fan of the new styling. Should have gotten the 6 speed! Still a nice car, but I would have picked something else with an auto tranny in that price range.

I wasn't a big fan either until I saw it in person. The car looks sharp in black. And BTW, the transmision is a 6 speed

I think I actually like your mustang more...

I always prefer black/black interiors....but that newer chocolate brown is very VERY nice.
I will admit the car looks nice....but I still dont like the interior design...and still not 100% sold on the interior.

I see your uncle has the sport package, nice choice. My father had an 01' 330i with the sport package and didn't like the rougher ride. He ended up giving it to my mom and buy an 02' A8L. When he bought this car, based on his past experience, he decided against the sport package. I did try and convince him to get the SMG transmision though.

my dad is 58 and her ordered his 5 series with the sport package.

the only reason why the 545 feels quicker than the mustang is because the BMW tends to leave your pockets empty after you pick it up from the dealer....=)

i love the 5 series. i had a 98 528 and a 01 530...got rid of them when i got my 3G TL.

The auto ran a 13.7 or 13.8 totally stock when a magazine tested it. I'd expect the stick to be faster than the new mustang.

My car would blow the doors off a 545i. I honestly wasn't impressed with the power when I drove the 5. Maybe it's the way the power comes on and the refinement, but it felt like a low 14s car.

Yeah, I'm not sure what it feels like, I just know what they ran.

A few guys have ran a 13.8 and 13.9 with the stock 540i/6, so I wouldn't be suprised if the 545/6 could keep up with your Mustang.

Do they still have the CDV on the new 5 series?

My Mustang should run low 13s as it sits and possibly high 12s with the mod I have in the mail. A 545 6 speed might give me a good run above 120.

CDV?

CDV?
Really? I didn't know the new Mustangs were as quick as the M46 M3s and LS1 powered cars. Did they underrate them?

The CDV delays clutch engagement (clutch delay valve), so every time you change the gear it slips for a few moments instead of putting the power to the ground. It's pretty much impossible to chirp second in my car (with 325 lb/ft of torque)

They sell modified ones, which really improves perfromance, especially after shifts.

http://www.zeckhausenracing.com/BMW/E60.htm

I ordered mine to go along with the Rogue short shifter kit and tranny mounts.

That guy has the best customer service I've ever seen!

Problems shifting your BMW E60 5-Series?

"Several models of BMWs with 5-speed or 6-speed manual transmissions have a Clutch Delay Valve (CDV) installed by the factory. This valve is the culprit behind the jerky shifting that makes your BMW hard to drive, even if you have been driving a standard transmission all your life. When replaced with the Zeckhausen Racing modified CDV, your clutch is suddenly transformed into the smooth, easy to modulate clutch that should have been delivered from the factory as standard. Extend the life of your clutch and increase the enjoyment of your BMW driving experience today!"

I would make that your dad's first mod.

Fast, I think he means he is modded. The new stang 5 speeds are pretty fast as I hear they are running mid to high-13s stock. I can't wait for my brother-in-law to get his 545 (black on black)...too bad I can't drive it!

Oh, well that would explain a lot. I know they're capable of at least mid 13s stock, just didn't know that he was modded.

FastAcura I was being sarcastic when I said it was a 6 speed. It technically is a 6 speed, but in Automatic form.

My Mustang is modded with a C&L intake and Predator tune. I also have an off-road xpipe in the mail. Should put me at or above 300 rwhp.

Nice cars!

As for the E60 tho.. I dunno. It's sharp looking, but I'm no big fan of the dash design. What they did to the doorpanels is.. I dunno... stupid imo. I like the window switches by the shifter, and not smacking my left knee into the sharp handle when you take a hard left.

Never compare a Mustangs brakes to BMW. Better yet, never compare a Mustang to a BMW.
