Picked up a new daily! Mark another one down for Jeepzine!
Was putting way too many miles on the Evo (doing 24K miles a year now due to new job and long-distance girlfriend) so I picked this baby up for 2500 bucks. It's a 99 XJ with 215K highway miles. It runs smooth and the interior is extremely clean. Only minor bumps and bruises on the exterior. It came with a 3.5 inch lift, 31 inch tall tires, 5 Wrangler wheels, roof rack, and trailer hitch.
So far I've just added an Alpine bluetooth head unit. Nothing else planned really. Just a hi-lift jack and all weather mats. Going to make sure this thing keeps running for at least 3 years.
Previous owner also gave me an extra set of headlights, fan belts, and Haynes manual.

Nice pickup! Can't believe you scored that for 2500. Great deal.
So when you hitting the dirt?

Thanks guys! I'm going to get a beach permit for next year so I can take this thing on the beach trails. If I have time to go to the DMV and get the car registered before Wednesday, I'll take it upstate to visit my GF in Ithaca at the end of the week. Upstate NY has some nice trails

Thanks everyone! I should have the car registered by Wednesday so I can take it up to Ithaca on Thursday night.
In preparation for the trip, I went ahead and changed the rotors and pads. Old rotors were warped and pads were worn down completely. Went with Duralast because I don't want to spend a crazy amount on this car and the warranty is great.

Wow, that is a nice Jeep for a nice price.
I am now lightly mulling over picking one up for bad winter days.
I just looked on Autotrader and they cost $2500-3000 around here with that mileage. The drivetrain on that model is bulletproof.
Thanks for the idea!

Looks great man, talk about a good price. Here in south jersey its impossible to find one in that condition for that low of a price. I settled for a grand cherokee thanks to their inability to hold value.
Good luck with it!

I was actually about to settle on a Grand Cherokee as well because decent XJs and Wranglers were well above my 3K budget. But I waited a little longer and came across this XJ listed on Craigslist for 2700. I shot him an offer and he accepted.

I like the look of the new Cherokee and the fact that a jellybeanish shape like that is Trail Capable™ is incredible.
That said, I like the old square look of these older Jeeps. And again, the drivetrains are very tough.

Nice pick up. Congrats. I had a 1995 Cherokee Sport for a while. It was a great vehicle.

So I've taken the Jeep on a few road trips since I got it. I'm very happy with the performance on and off the road. But big things are in store for this Jeep. I know I said I didn't have much planned for it, but I changed my mind
Stereo
Shovel mount
Road Trip 1 - Ithaca, NY
GF on top of Jeep
Added off road lights
Beach Trip 1 - Smith Point, NY
Took off the rear bumper caps to install new rear bumper and found this
New rear bumper
Road Trip 2 - Richmond, VA with side trip to George Washington National Forest, VA
End of the day - exhaust hanger broke

Sucks about the rust. Do you think you'll be fixing it up or just continue driving it as is?
Looks pretty awesome otherwise, though. . I like the rear bumper.
What kind of mileage have you been getting on your trips?

I'm just gonna cut off the rusty part and rivet in a panel on top of it. I have sheetmetal panels already since they came with the bumper. Just gotta get time to do it.
I think I'm averaging around 18mpg. But only having to put in regular gas helps offset the extra cost quite a bit. Also the cheaper gas in a lot of the places I go. I filled up for $2.96/gal at a place in Virginia
